So we did our first big headline show last night...our second show total.... and along with our take from the door the club owner gives us a CD and tells me its the main sends for the show... awesome. So we werent expecting to get audio from this one but we did! I went through and grabbed one of my favorite songs from the set and thought I'd share it. Its a shame the bass didn't come through in the mix.. and the guitars a little to hot.. and the vocals are dry. But oh well.

The show was great btw... we had about 35 people come out for us specificaly and then quite a few more there to see the other bands but who stayed to watch us.

Little background on this one.. I wrote it for the SSG right here on Guitar Noise... we played a total of 5 SSG tunes on our 10 song set.

This one's called "My City"

My city sleeps tonight
And under our feet tonight
Her heart softly beats
And through all the cracks in the streets
She breaths

My city dreams tonight
Of flowers and trees tonight
All she used to be
And as the rain hits the concrete
She weeps

(Chorus)
My city sleeps tonight
And as she dreams tonight
She holds me
And tells me that she loves me

Out on the streets tonight
Where I'll fall asleep tonight
Where no one can see
These beautiful secrets she keeps
But me

(Chorus)

She holds me
And tells me that she loves me

Cool tune and perfomance, Marv -- sounds good even through my laptop's pico-speakers. Going to post more?

This tune can't possibly be about Plano, right?

No definately not about Plano. I used to work in downtown Dallas and i wouldnt get out of work until midnight-2am. I'd leave the office building i was working in and the whole of downtown would be largely empty. Just a few cars here and there and stray homeless folks. It was kinda creepy at first.. but then I got used to it. It became a zen thing towalk to my car every day. I'd had the line "My city sleeps tonight" in my head since I used to work down there. Wasn't until this particular SSG assignment sparked my imagination.. that i got a song out of it.

I love the effects work! Really cool tone, though the wah was a little wild at times, but still very relaxing. I can see where the bass was carrying a little more weight, it's a bummer that didn't come though, but it sounds like you'll have plenty more opportunities to play that one. :D

I don't follow my dreams, I just ask em' where they're going and catch up with them later.

Did you see that!

Thanks for the kind words :). i think im going to dump this track into my home studio stuff and add my bass back in. Is that cheating? hehe.. and actually he wasnt using a wah.. that was an MXR phaser i believe. I could be wrong. I'll ask him. I never pay attention. hehe

I thought it was wah-wah as well. It sounded manually controlled.

I'd definitely add the bass back in. This is often done to live recordings that can't be adjusted any other way. You're just reconstructing history, after all -- actually, it's a bit like restoration of a painting.

Good work. The bass fills it out nicely.

Me and the keyboard player have been together maybe a year. The drummer came in about 6 months ago.. if that... then our guitar player has been with us 3 months or so.
