I cant get your video at this time? I'll try in the morning :D
Why yes, I am still alive .... after having gone mental  trying to figure how to sing AND play at the same time...
Please accept my version of an old favorite, "Wharf Rat" :

I finally had some extended quiet time  this morning, started with a passable (IMHO!) non-vocal version of "New Speedway Boogie" , then realized that I had accidentally shut the camera off  .... and then tried this song, which I have really only been playing for several weeks.
That said, it will prob be a couple more years before I can sing AND play anything perfectly
BTW the great youtube experiment was a roaring success, in that when I actually had a "live" ( meaning "captive" lol) audience, the videotaping experience really helped with the inevitable stagefright 8)
... I only wish Isabelle was on the forum right now to accept my hearfelt thanks for her great idea!

Hey Stella
I'm getting quite excited about joining you all on this thread at the end of my first year apprenticeship. I will officially 'move over' and leave the beginners thread to what I feel should be 0-12 months, maybe a transitional period from 12-18 months to demonstrate learning new techniques...
I've left my comments on YouTube, but what an amazing song to cover - and not many people have, either. I love your voice and you have got playing and singing sussed.
I actually felt like a 'busker' when I decided it was time to play my guitar standing up - it takes a bit of getting used to, so that may be a 'beginners' thread video, but then 'virtual busking' here we come...
Issy is still about, although Les Paul haven't designed a guitar that rests nicely on an 8th month bump yet and she's trying to figure out how to get the practice amp into the hospital...
See ya soon Stella
Rock on!

:D Hooray for the five peaceful minutes!
This is not as common occurence as one would hope  so without further ado I bring you another Grateful Dead cover, this time "Black Peter" from the acoustic Workingman's Dead album. (Friend of the Devil was also on this album).
"Cover" being code for "expect singing"

I'm still having trouble finding a live audience that will watch my children for me  so your continuing patience and encouragement here at Guitarnoise (especially Dylan 8) !) are greatly appreciated.

Now Lucie Silvas is one of my favorite artists so I really enjoyed this. Mind you I was waiting for you to sing it too. Come on you can do it.

WELL!   I was not familiar with Lucie's work but thanks to the internet, that is no longer an excuse for ignorance ... thank you very much for the lovely compliment :D
OK now I'm motivated :D

You were better than I was after one year. Keep on playing this and re-post it in about one month! :D
Thanks again for all the encouragement and the lovely compliments (which have quite turned by head - I am now looking at the world backwards lol).
So anyway, I wrote several songs over the winter and spring and most of them I still can't really play worth beans ...
Here is one that I can actually play altho it took me several takes, mostly cuz I kept forgetting the words  OK a friend of mine made me PROMISE to post this - now I can relax and go back to practicing:

BTW I wrote most of this song AWAY from the guitar, it was just one of those nagging things that I obsessed over for WEEKS until it finally took shape. Songwriting is an involuntary thing for me, I have no idea where this is all headed but I just - can't - stop

...so this is what talent is..!
Sooo beautiful, I love it. The words and the melody.. its one of those songs you find yourself humming afterwards. :D
D*mn you Stella you set the bar so high!
Great song Stella! 8)
You've got a great voice too, hope to hear more songs from you. Thanks for sharing. :D

Really nice Stella :D The lyrics are good, and the chord progression is nice. Also this was well played 8) You should post this over on "Hear here"
stella this is wonderful. Good playing, an even better voice, and even better song writing. You really sounded great.
The lyrics were the best part, for me, really. Very well written. I thought the last verse was a teeeeensy bit awkward in its wording, but the rest I thought was perfect. If Tolkien were a song writer, I'd imagine he'd write something just like that - take that as you will, but I think Tolkien is a beautiful writer.
WOW  Thanks so much for the high praise - my head is about to explode tho. But the support is really great because it really has only been a year and a half and sometimes it seems like I've stalled or even going backwards and sometimes playing feels almost like WORK
And since I'm generally known around here as 'so-and-so's mom' or such, having others share in the first few milestones means a lot  sniff .... thanks again!
If Tolkien were a song writer, I'd imagine he'd write something just like that.
Very sweet Taso ... I was thinking more along the lines of Robert Hunter lol but coincidentally my own love of Tolkien's works started in '72 - my best friend's dad was a draft dodger, living here in Canada and reading The Hobbit to his daughter. Those are some great memories - the original hippies all had goats and chickens and spearmint growing in the garden, and they all played musical instruments- exotic ones like zithers and dulcimers 8)

I have to be honest. I wasn't particularly fond of your covers but hearing this was a surprise to me. You've come out of your shell with this one. Folk is definitely your direction. Nicely done and the lyrics were heartfelt which is all anyone could ever ask for in a good song.
Hey all
Huh, so much for me standing there singing Knockin' on Heaven's Door - I now have to write a blockbuster to get onto this thread...
I'm not really a folk song type of person - I suppose the closest I get is Cat Stevens, but I loved listening to your song Stella - it made me sit back and drift away... Lovely simple tune and great lyrics....
I hope there's some more where that came from..?
Rock on under that sycamore tree!
