Blue Snowball in headphones?

Hi all,

I'm using Cakewalk Sonar and a Blue Snowball USB mic to record. I'm able to record the audio just fine, except that I don't hear the mic's input live in my headphones. When I have a lot of tracks already laid down it can be tough to distinguish.

Anyone have any ideas on how I might get the USB mic to play through the headphones in Sonar?

Thanks!

Jeff

Sounds like a weak input signal problem.

How distinguished are the audio waves in the track pane.

Not familiar with the Snowball USB but, there should be some type of screen interface (check in the task tray when you have the thing hooked up) you can access to be able to set the lines input level to.

Play through your phones...... where are your phones at now? They should be hooked up to the device your output is routed to. You can solo the vocals but, that's not really gonna help you in the final mix down.

The Snowball doesn't have a specific control panel, it uses the "Sounds and Audio Devices" control panel which only has a Volume meter, which is set at about 90%.

The actual input from the microphone records just fine, and it sounds exactly as it should when I play it back. The only problem is that I don't hear the microphone live--it doesn't play directly through the speakers or headphones so I have no monitor while I'm recording.

The headphones are plugged into my PC speakers.

Thanks again for any help :)

U HAVE A LATENCY ISSUE. THERE MAY BE A SOFTWARE FIX IN THE PROGRAM U ARE USING BUT THE EASIEST THING TO DO IS TO GO FROM MIC TO MIXING BOARD FROM MIXING BOARD TO COMPUTER. ALSO RUN YOUR PLAYBACK THROUGH THE BOARD TO... THIS SHOULD CURE THIS PROBLEM.

No matter where you go.... There You are! Law of Location

Ahhh..... I'm not near my recording PC right now but, you need to select the audio while recording (or something like that) option.

I'll check when I get home from work.

If you want input monitoring on just the one track, select the "Input Echo" on the right side of the "R" button in the track view.

I kinda have the problem: it's not latency and the audio is being played. Usually the problem is that the recorded tracks are processed and sound much louder then uncompressed vocals. And if I raise the volume of the vocals the louder parts clip.

Thanks, Mike! That does it. Now if I could figure out how to get Sonar and the USB mic to properly use ASIO4ALL so I could tone down the latency. It's a very distinguishable echo right now, which sounds kinda weird.

I was able to get ASIO4ALL working with no latency last year in Vegas but when I switched to Sonar to use MIDI, I'm not sure how to make it work now.

You need to go into the Window's mixer and mute the line in. You should then just hear the processed sound.

Sorry, should have included that before.

You should look into Project 5 V2 (also Cakewalk) for your MIDI. They are doing an upgrade deal right now. If you upgrade to Sonar 5 (can't remember if it has to be the Producer version, though) you can get Project 5 V2 and Dimension Pro for an extra $198 ($99 each). Not a bad deal! I did it the last time they offered it and I still don't regret it. You get SO MANY instruments and effects, its insane!!! They also just released "Expansion Pack 1" (for Dim Pro (for free) that has hundreds more!
