I have been recording on and off in my dorm with an SM-57 -->Peavey PV6 mixer --> Emu 0202 USB interface. I've enjoyed it a lot, and lately have started making a few demos recording my (acoustic-electric) guitar direct and using the mic for vocals, rather than trying to record the two tracks separately. I'm looking to get another microphone so I can record "real" acoustic guitar and vocals at the same time, and am not sure what to look for, though I assume a condenser is the right choice.

Should I go for something that's good for instruments, something good for vocals, or something versatile? My budget is around $150, so I've been looking at the entry level offerings from MXL, Sterling, Studio Projects, and Audio Technica, to name a few. I've also noticed some package deals with one instrument and one vocal mike. Any thoughts on those or others?

same situation here.
I picked up a wide condenser and problems solved. wide condensers are versitile. both work with voice and instrument.
I am slowly working my way towards the expensive mikes in the three to five hundred range. bt to start I went with
a CAD GXL2200. a very nice mike for the low cost of 75$. it came with a shock mount too.
the AKGs and Rodes I will be looking at the next time.

CAD is making some fine mikes in a wide price range.

AKG has the 2041 a package which include an AT2020 LDC and an AT2021 SDC. A nice little package from a trusted company. They are currently going for about $150 for the pair. This is an ideal package form micing an acoustic guitar. It is on the low end so don't expect miracles but it should be well worth the money.

I have a Studio Project B1, 120€, more or less in your price range.

I think I made some recordings... yes, it is:

I also have several recordings of my electric via the amp. If you want to hear them, let me now and I'll upload them to Soundclick.

I've got this package myself, and it's an excellent value for the money. Plus, they're inexpensive so if the drummer nails one overhead, you aren't gonna have to pay a lot to replace the mic.
