I could not resist the temptation to be the first one in this new forum.
I like the free VST "Classic" plugin series from Kjearhus.

The Compressor and Reverb is good on acoustic guitar and the Compressor and EQ is good on vocal. And the Master limiter on the final mix to boost the overall level .
And normally I use the default settings for acoustic guitar and vocal in the VST Plugins.

I've been using audacity for a while now, although I think the most I've ever done is four tracks - 2Xguitar, bass & vocals - and having just found this forum, I realise I'm a bit backward when it comes to technology - so I'd be grateful if someone'd let me know what exactly is VST(couple of links posted) and is it/are they easy to use?

:D :D :D

Hi Vic
Virtual Studio Technology. VST is a SW technology used for digital sound creation developed by Steinberg for their sequencer Cubase SX.
VST (FX) Plug-ins are added to a track to change the sound of the track and also to the master track to change the over-all sound.

There is another type of FX pugins : Direct X (DX, microsoft technology) doing the same thing.

I Audacity you can use VST (FX) Plug-ins if you add the VST enabler, but the user interface of the FX plugins in Audacity are very primitive compared the graphical user interface that is possible have if you use the VST plugins in other sequencer SW ( i.e. Kristal Audio Engine).
N.B. Audacity has its own share of included effects that is doing the same thing as a imported VST (FX) Plugin.
