help with microphone

I'm using audacity and i plug my guitar into the mic jack on back of computer and it works fine.
Then I plug in my microphone and nothing!!! I have tried my friends mics too and no go. Someone please help
I want to record my new song and share :|

what type of mic? some mikes require phantom power to run them. a dynamic mike, like Shure 58, does not need power, but a condenser typically does.

I have tried the mic that comes with the computer and a regular mic. I cant figure it out ahhh.

Make sure you're plugging into the mic jack and not line in.

I got it working now thanks, computers are funny one day no work other days work ha.
I almost have a song now with guitar and voice !!!! Will post soon!
