iRig Mic for iPad 3rd gen. connections?

MY new recording studio is iPad's 'GarageBand', of course.
I had recently picked up the iRig for guitar plug-in and the iRig Mic for audio recording.
Ive decided to return the iRig and then purchase the Apogee JAM for guitar plug-ins .
Here is my question- Is there an adapter so that I could plug-in the Mic to the iPad port instead of using the headphone port?
Also, does it really matter? As I have been researching online , I see that some people have had difficulties in that regard(using the headphone port).
Please share some advice with me my friends. I hate the idea of having to 'alter' or adjust settings. Im keeping the iRig Mic because it has pretty good reviews as an overall middle of the road product for the iPad.
