I'm trying out Kristal and so far so good. I have no problem recording guitar, but I can't get it to let me record through the mic. With Audacity I can toggle audio inputs between "line-in" and "mic". Is there a way to get Kristal to recognize my mic?
Thanks!

What kind of mic are we talking about here? Is it a simple dynamic mic? Computer mic? Condensers require +48v phantom power. Do you have the mic plugged into the mic in as opposed to the line in? More info please. If you are using one of those USB condensers, you will need to switch drivers in the preference panel. It should be samson usb ASIO or ______usb ASIO.
I'm using a chep tape recorder mic. I'll upgrade as the budget allows. But for now I'm just having fun exploring this new toy.
I figured it out. I have it plugged into the mic jack, and with Audacity I can just toggle between mic and input. Here I have to change the recoring setting on my soundcard to record from the mic as opposed to input. Then I switch back to input when doing guitar tracks.
Thanks for the response.

Hi Jim
Yes, you are right.
In KAE you can´t select between soundcard inputs, you need to use Windows sound controls for that.
That´s the same with most other semipro or pro recording SW.
You normally always use the line inputs of the soundcard and have a mixer in front of it.

Actually, that's only true with Soundblaster type cards. With any prosumer or Pro card, you have no choice but to use one of it's drivers whether it be the WDM or ASIO. At that point you will find that all the input controls are greyed out in windows sound mixer.
