I picked up an Mbox 2 with Protool LE last weekend, but have yet to crack the carton and try it out. One thing stopping me is the feeling that I really should have gone the firewire route, possibly with a PreSonus box instead. After buying this, I find out the Mbox 2 is still USB 1.1 -- salesguy claimed 2.0 (shock and surprise, a salesguy is wrong. ) Plus, in reading the very few reviews of the Mbox 2, I'm getting the impression that it's mainly a vehicle to get people hooked into Protools. That's fine, but I have no particular desire to switch over, as I've been a Cool Edit Pro 2 user for years now.

My questions:

1. Can anybody offer comparitive comments on the various wirefire/USB PC recording hardware (Digidesign, Presonus, Mackie, M-audio, Tascam ...) in the $300 to $1000 range?

2. Same thing for Protools versus Cool Edit Pro 2 (Adobe Audition) versus Steinberg Cubase ...

And good or bad all my PCs are Win 2000 or XP ...

TIA - Greg
