Hi:

I just recorded this little solo tonight. I've been dabbling with recording for a couple of years now (with Garageband), but I was never very happy with the sound of my guitar plugged straight into my Macintosh. This piece was recorded with:

My Carvin DC 127 guitar into a Behringer GDI-21 DI box, to a Behringer GM110 amp, to a Behringer UB802 mixer, to a Behringer UCA202 USB sound card. Total cost (excluding guitar and Macintosh)= less than $200!

I'm pretty pleased with the lead tone (the backing track was downloaded from the Web) and look forward to more recording fun soon!

Great band name - playing is very solid - great feel. Tone is just a tad harsh IMO......

Its a great thing when you realize you still have the ability to surprise yourself.

I know what you mean about harsh. When the track converted to MP3 from Garageband, it got more trebly. I've redone it with compression--it sounds heavier, but still stinging. I'll keep working on more stuff and try to improve the tone. Thanks for the kind words.

Here is another version, this time recorded with the Behringer amp miked. I think it sounds mellower:

The tone is much better in the second one! Great bluesy licks too! Well played.

Thanks for the compliment. I also recorded my acoustic for the first time. Figuring out how to make THAT sound good will be a new project! But overall, I'm pretty happy with the sound:

I also like the second (miked) recording of Blues in A better, the "mellow sound" is just the right for this type of blues, and miking the the amp will give you the complete sound of the Amp (including sound of speaker).
What type of mike did you use ?
The Blues solo is great.

The acoustic recording (and playing) is also very good.
Did you use any effects ( echo, compressor etc) on the recording ?
Or is the slight echo on the guitar just a normal room echo.

Tanglewood TW28STE (Shadow P7 EQ) acoustic
Yamaha RGX 320FZ electric guitar/Egnater Tweaker 15 amp.
Yamaha RBX 270 bass/Laney DB 150 amp.

Thanks Kalle! Each track was miked with a Behringer XM8500 (apparently it is similar to a Shure SM58). The acoustic track has the rhythm panned in stereo and the lead panned in stereo (in other words, it is doubled, and one goes right, one goes left). I just pointed the mic at the soundhole and played. The chords are Am-F-C-G, and the lead is basically Am/C major.

I use Garageband to record, and I like to enhance things with the LFX-1310 Audio Unit plug in ( http://www.luxonix.com/home/en/products-lfx1310.html ). I used light compression and a spring reverb simulation.

I liked the acoustic track - can I ask how long you've been playing, eichaan?

Thanks!

Thanks! Long enough that I should be a lot better. About 20 years (though I don't pick on the acoustic too often).
