Hey guys,

Quick question.
I'm a novice songwriter and I'm trying to do some simple recording to save some songs I've written on my laptop. I'm just trying to let other people with a lot of experience hear my songs/singing/guitar playing and just let them evaulate me- that's all- not trying to produce some high quality digitally mastered CD here.

A friend of mine tells me to just get some cheap, crappy mike.
Getting a cheap mike is no problem I guess. Any special recommendations here? Cheap yet good?

Aside from that- are there any programs/software one must download/install to be able to record?
(There is a "sound recorder" program on my laptop but 1 minute is the maximum amount of time that it lets you record- how sad)

Hi,

Many of us on the forums use Audacity. It's a free download
and easy to use.

Here is the link:

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/

After you get some stuff recorded you can post it on a site
like Soundclick or Dmusic and post in the Guitar Noise
Songwriting Club for critique.

You should also check out The Sunday Songwriting Club.
Each week a new topic is posted and you write a song using
that topic and post it for critique.

Welcome to Guitar Noise

you could get a decent mic on ebay for around $20. and a soundcard or similar device to plug the mic into for around $100.
