I'm not sure where to post this, so , I hope this is the correct forum. The guy I play with wants to have a website. Instead of auditioning (like he used to), people want a website where they can listen to some of his music.
I used to do websites YEARS ago (I would actually type up the HTML code in notepad) so I know a little. He doesn't even use E-mail.

He doesn't want to spend allot of money so I'm thinking about MYSPACE or SOUNCLICK.
So the website would be a BIO/INFO, songs that can be streamed or downloaded and maybe a schedule for gigs he performs and contact information.

He also ask me, “Would there be infringement problems if he performed a Beatles (cover)?”. I told him no, as long as he didn't claim the song was his…. I'm hoping I'm correct? I see people on YOU-TUBE doing covers all the time?

So my questions are, will MYSPACE and/or SOUNDCLICK do what we want?
Is performing covers ok to record and put on a website?
Thanks, Bob Jessie

I discovered this website when someone posted it on a different forum: http://garageband.com/
I thought it was pretty cool that people could rate the songs and you could search by type of music and whatnot

soundclick is a well used site for the purposes you are interested. they state that you cannot post covers without permission.
I post on soundclick. more than half my stuff is versions of covers.
I have not been spanked yet.
however, the site hosts have the right to remove the offender at will.

I am going to look into permission eventually. probably should.

the trick of exposure on a web site is how to get people to look there.

The difference between soundclick and myspace is that SC is for musicians, myspace for everyone. It's become accepted to give the link to your myspace instead of handing in a demo over here as long as we're talking about local bars, underground labels and such. How good are his recordings?

Exactly! Remember almost a year ago you offered to redo my CUBASE files after we recorded. Well, we never recorded! He says we'll do it this Thursday or Friday - we'll see. Yes - he is good!

I did do a quick website for him on soundclick. Without going into a long story, I uploaded a "waterfalls" recording I did. Once SOUNCLICK clears it then I'll replace it with his music. It's not done yet! I need to get info, pictures etc from him.

Thanks everyone for suggestions. I've have to get this guy to start using E-mail.

Not so much for exposure but what Arjen said. Instead of handing in DEMO CD's clients (bar owners, etc) want the name of the website and either listen to the music online or download.

Umm, shouldn't it be soundclick?

It looks like the recording has cleared. One basic page ready for fleshing out.
Nice recording of Waterfall, by the way. A bit quiet, perhaps, but a nice performance.

From a consumer's point of view, I prefer MySpace music pages. I've bought a heck of a lot of CDs, and gone to a lot of gigs as a result of them.

I've NEVER been to a jam, music festival etc where someone's given out a Soundclick address; they've always been personal or MySpace music pages (usually the latter).

Yes - I've noticed that also! I may want to do something there (MYSPACE)

Yes - just another stupid typo.

As far as the recording goes, when I did playback in CUBASE the volume was fine. When I converted to MP3 and WAV for some reason the volume isn't there? I'll keep trying? Bob Jessie
