This isn't a guitar-related site, but it's the coolest site for music lovers that I've ever seen. Hope it's okay to post here.

http://pandora.com/

Enter an artist's name. They'll play a song by that artist and describe some of the musical properties of that song. They then start playing other songs that they think share similar musical properties. It's a great way to find new music and is highly addictive.

Enjoy!

This site kicks ass!!! This is the direction that online music should go.

I've read about the music genome project before but totally forgot about it.

Great find man!!!

Really cool.

Reminds me of the replicator on Star Trek.

In this case, just type in the name of a band, and voila, instant music. Interesting selections of similar songs! Sorta weird too. (i.e Rush--Mission; Jethro Tull--Raising Steam; then Men at Work--Upstairs In My House (?) ) Cool. However, for non-USA residents, it'll only give you three songs then you gotta register. You need a US Postal code, because presently they can only legally stream to USA residents. Won't allow you to re-enter for three more songs. Too bad.

I think I'll go and make myself an Earl Grey tea.... 8)

Make it so!

I'm both thrilled and gutted to find this site - mainly because I had an idea to something similar and this blows anything I could produce out of the water - it's a fantastic site that really works well.

Ah well, at least I've saved myself a domain registration and a lot of effort... :)

Hey just came across this site, http://www.last.fm . Seems similar to Pandora. Didn't really have a chance to explore it yet, so don't know if it's as good as Pandora; but I've grown loyal to Pandora so I'd be reluctant to accept that it is.

Pandora's not bad - I gave it a Wall Street zip code and a ".co.uk" e-mail addy and it quite happily streams to the UK. I've registered with places as [email protected] before, all from Europe.

Best,

Yeah. I just found out about last.fm the other day. Similar concept, but apparently last.fm tracks what you listen to and makes suggestions accordingly. You're required to download some software and then they can track what you listen to in your media player or ipod. They then make recommendations based on what other people who like the same music you like listen to.

I've read that a lot of people like that social networking aspect of last.fm better than pandora. For now I'm perfectly happy with pandora. In fact, I'm listening to it right now. I've got one station that I just keep adding artists to. Here's what I've got so far:

Paul Westerberg
The Soundtrack of Our Lives
Billy Joe Shaver
Sloan
Enuff Z'Nuff
The Bottle Rockets
Marah
The Georgia Satellites
Nash Kato
Faster Pussycat

Pandora also makes suggestions, in fact it sometimes makes some really wierd leaps of faith. Which is why i sometimes find it futile to try and make clearly distinct stations, the line get blurred

Not pouting or anything but geez, I mentioned this site four days before this mention. Still and all, an interesting site worth spending some time on. I had no idea of the many Gordon Lightfoot or Kate Bush like artists out there.
