I have a situation that I have not found an answer to as of yet on the web, mainly because it is equipment specific and deals with 4 set of speakers rather than 2. I have (In My Studio)
1)2 SUNN speaker cabs w/15 inch woofer and a small exponential horn (midrange and highs). Up high on on a tall stand in one side of the room
2)2 Yamaha Long throws w/15 inch woofer and a Large expotential horn (I wish to use these as subs) these are set up on low stands in the opposite side of the room.
3)I have 2 amps - Peavey CS 400 and Peavey CS 900
I am ready for a crossover and wish to Bi-amp this system if possible rather than buy another amp and tri-amp it since these will never leave my studio. Also, since all 4 speaker cabs carry from low to high passively, should I be viewing them from the perspective of having 4 monitors?
Currently,
I do “NOT” have the speakers chained. Rather I am using 2 out from the 900 to one set of speakers and 2 out from the 400 to the other set of speakers and I have the 2 amps linked together. Is this OK?

Now the Crossover,,, There are so many different types with different attributes and since I never had a crossover before or hooked one up, I am not sure what I will need to hook up 4 speakers to 2 amps and get my desired results. The results would be a good stereo and surround image, and hard thumping bass. I do not think I need anything elaborate, but I do need a crossover that will have enough ins and outs to get the job done or maybe 2 cheap crossovers?, I dunno.
On the least expensive end of the spectrum, I am looking at the BBE Max-x3 with Sonic Maximiser http://www.hollywooddj.com/maxx3crossover.html , and the
Samsung S- 3way
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/S3Way/
But I am not sure it has in it enough to control what eqipment I have.

Mid Priced, I was looking at
DBX
http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-DBX-234-LIST
Berhinger Ultra . This has allot of control
http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/DCX2496.aspx

And on the higher end, DBX DriveRack PA+
http://www.dbxpro.com/PA%2B/
or RANE AC 23S
http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Rane-AC-23S-Active-Crossover-with-LinkwitzRiley-Filter?sku=182709
or Ashley XR 4001
http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ashly-Audio-XR4001-Stereo-4WayMono-7Way-Crossover?sku=181029
The Ashley has up to 7 mono's out.

Would this be the best way to do it? :

Feed the SUBS (2 Long Throw's) with the CS900, one SUB to the LEFT side, one SUB to the RIGHT side.

Feed the FULLRANGE (2 Flat faced ) with the CS400, one FULLRANGE to the LEFT and one FULLRANGE to the RIGHT.

Connect the LOPASS OUTPUTS of the CROSSOVER to the CS900 LEFT and RIGHT INPUTS.

Connect the HIGHPASS OUTPUTS of the CROSSOVER to the CS400 LEFT and RIGHT INPUTS.

Set your crossover to, I'm guessing , somewhere between 60Hz and 80Hz.

Connect the LEFT and RIGHT signal to the CROSSOVER INPUTS.

Would that work with these speakers?

Yes, this should work. I would get a simple 2-channel crossover (no brand preference). Disconnect the horns on the Yamahas. Mess around with the crossover frequency, you may go as high as 100Hz depending on how it sounds. Be sure to use heavy speaker wire for the subs.

Hi Laz, Thanks for your reply. The horns are realy good sounding. Is there a way to pull the most out of my bass without diconnecting the horns? BTW, These long throws are so good that I am almost there without any active crossover. I would just like to gett as little more "umph" in that Bass.

If you use a crossover, then there won't be much signal going to the Yamaha horns anyway. If you like the sound of the Yamahas better than the Sunns, then use the Sunns as your subs. You can use all 4 as full range together, but that wasn't your original question.
