ok, i'm not too sure i will be able to help you out but i will try. first i have never played through a Crate amp. so these settings i'm giving you, you may just need to tweak them one way or the other. But maybe this will get you close and help you find those tones witha little messing around. with that said, try these too settings and see if they get you in the ballpark.

i would use your first dirty channel, you may even try the dirtier channel if these don't work.

for a classic crunch set your gain at "2 or 3" the bass at "5" Contour at "5" treble at "7"

For screaming lead, (which is what i think slash is lol)
Gain at "8" Bass at "7" contour at "5" treble at "5"

now you may also want to try this metal setting, i don't know, but i'll give it to you just incase.
gain at "9" bass at "8" contour at "9" treble at "8"

Like i said sart with one and adjust alittle if need be if not then go to the next one and try it. i think the screaming lead may be what your looking for. i hope this helps.

As far as I remember, you're sort of right. It has to do with the contour of the frequency response curve. The mids, as I remember, are not affected, just the lows and highs.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

Dont forget to tune down half a step too for some of your songs.

There wouldn't be one setting that would transpose from the setting I use for my rig that would also work for your rig. I use three rack mounted stereo eq's and two eq's built into the pre-amp. They bracket everything. I tend to push more mid's and highs. My tube power amps are running at their saturation point, with attenuators to to clip about -4db to -8db.

If I sat and listed the exact + or - of every frequency from all the eq's you would still have to dial them in for your setup.
