Well, last week I picked up an Epiphone Valve Junior to go with my white SG. :D Thing sounds great, old school and whatnot. I love tube amps. Pics and maybe soundclips when I get home, I'm in St. John's right now.

Yep, these Epi amps are really nice, they have their own distinct tone, neither Fender or Marshall. They get nice natural breakup if you can get the volume up.
Pick up a good EQ pedal and you will be getting some great tones.

One thing the VJ does that sounds a bit Marshallish to me is to give that nice pulsating engine-like sound when it's cranked all the way up and driven hard. A snarling, tiger growl. Comes from blocking distortion with a short time constant in the interstage coupling between the two 12AX7 stages, I think. Wouldn't get that if they hadn't balanced the stages for way excessive drive with the volume cranked, and they got the time constant of the coupling capacitor and grid load resistor just right. (It can sound terrible when you get it too long. Like a bad cell phone connection cutting in and out.)

With Christmas just around the corner (and me completely 'round the bend :roll: ), I'm hoping to get either an amp, a guitar, or both (if remotely feasible). I'll be asking advice (and trying to understand stuff such as Ricochet's above quote :?) soon enough. You've been warned. :twisted:

The EVJ is a great amp, plenty of grunt and TONS of tone. Very vintage sound. I had never heard one either, until I got mine home, but it goes very well with my EMG-equipped SG. Have a look at one!
