Stereo Mic or Single Mic?

For live work don't make things more complex than they have to be.
Faster/easier set up. Less to go wrong.

Besides, even if the PA is stereo (no guarantee), there might be only 1 or 2 people sitting in the exact right spot to appreciate the effect. And even then it would probably be too subtle for most listeners to notice

It's hard to beat something like a good old SM57.

In a nice quiet concert hall with soft seats, good acoustics, an excellent PA and quiet respectful audience, absolutely the condenser would be the preferred choice for optimum sound quality.

In a bookstore, use whatever you feel comfortable with. :wink:

Does the PA provide phantom power? Or do you have in-line phantom power boxes?
Is your condenser mic unidirectional? How tight is the pattern? Might feedback be an issue? Especially considering the location of the pa speakers relative to the stage is probably not under your control.

I've used an AKG C1000 condenser in church to mic a reso, and it sounded great!

I've got no idea what I feel comfortable with LOL.

It's a hyper-cardioid pencil Mic, a Samson C02 Matched Pair. It's going through a Carven system, and it does have phantom power and a +20db boost if needed.

But I don't know about the feedback, perhaps the Sure 57 would be good to eliminate that.

Since your condensers are hypercardiod, feedback shouldn't be an issue.

So back to whatever you are comfortable with.

So, what did you end up using?
And how did it work for you?

I used the condenser mic, and that worked really well. The gig....not so much.

There is video there as well...edited video...I wanted to stop after the first few songs it was that bad. Others thought otherwise which is what counts I guess.
