Thought I would say hello from good ole southern ontario.

My wife got me quitar this past christmas and I have been having a blast trying to play. After reading through Dave's excellent articles it was time to join what looks to be fantastic community. Looking forward to good time ahead.

Currently playing a Martin DX1.

Richard

Welcome to GN Richard!

Is the Martin the new guitar you received as a gift? Make sure you write back and let us know...'eh.

Hi Richard, welcome to GN! Wow, wish I'd had a Martin as a starter guitar - I wonder how many people were put off playing because they bought a cheap guitar with the strings mile away from the fretboard? Learning something new's always hard - must be more pleasurable though, with a nice guitar to learn on. Good luck!!!

:D :D :D

Wow,
Thanks for all of the kind reply's. Looking forward to expanding my guitar learning experience here on this forum.

As for the Martin DX1, no it was not in fact the Christmas gift from the wife. After a couple of months of playing the Walmart special (Silvertone...which did not sound too bad) and finding that I was really putting some effort into learning the instrument I traded it in for the Martin DX1. Well actually I traded it in for a Washburn electro acoustic but found the sound to be a bit soft so I exchanged it for the Martin.

The wife was very supportive in getting a guitar that I would like to keep for a number of years instead of just buying something that I may want to trade up again in a year of so.

As for myself learning the guitar I am in fact taking lessons and trying to absorb all of the great info on the web. I am not wanting to learn lead but rather want to lead but want to become good at picking out the turn of a song a figuring out how to play it. Basically just wanting to play for the kids out in the backyard and for myself as a form of relaxation.

I am looking forward to many discussions on this board.

Take care

Richard
