Hey everyone, I'm Roy and live in La Mesa (east county area of San Diego) Ca. Growing up I played guitar a bit. I wanted to play and sing, but I was a shy kid and ended up not singing and Just playing parts of songs that I liked without any real plan or goal... (My brother also started playing around that time became quite good, played in pubs etc. and to this day is a accomplished musician) I got discouraged and gradualy stopped entirely. The wish to be able to play and sing was still in the back of my mind though. I picked up my acoustic guitar about a year and a half ago and started playing again AND singing. I just want to keep learning now and need input, critique, and conection with musicians. This site seems like a good start!

Welcome to GN, Roy! Sigh...the story's a familiar one - quite a few of us have trodden a similar path. Hope you manage to stick around and eventually achieve your goals.
All the best,

Hi Roy, and welcome.
Let me tell you I was right in your shoes when I discovered GN a few years back. This site has been instrumental (no pun intended) in my development since then. Now I am playing and singing- mostly at private parties and open mikes but I'm on the verge of starting pub gigs. Hope that gives you some hope. If I can do it, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to. The main key I found was persistence- just keeping at it on a consistent basis and not giving up.
Regards,
Mike

Hey, thanks a lot! It does give hope and I appreciate the advise! Friends Have suggested open mikes as a first step in playing in front of an audience, I'm practicing and workin' up my nerve.
Best of luck to you.
ps. I'd like to hear some of your stuff...
Hi Roy. welcome from another Roy. This is a pretty nice group of folks around here who'll help in any way they can. Hope you enjoy your time here and your new guitar journey.
