Last Saturday night my band LIFE IS DRAMA played @ Keglers Sports Bar & Grill in (Crest Hill). We played here back in July 2011 and we had about 20ppl last time. I mentioned to our drummer “I hope we have a good crowd Sat night” and DID WE!!! :D Kegler's is a bar with a bowling alley attached to it and they don't have a stage so we just set up on the floor. The bar is set up right in front of us w/booths on both sides and high top tables in the back area. It's a NICE place w/a cool staff!!! Our start time was flexible (9pm-10pm) depending on the crowd size & the last time we didn't start till 10pm due to the thin crowd. Before we started I ran around and placed our business cards on all the tables and all around the bar thanking people for coming out. After that I talked to the door man said he'd been talking our band up for weeks to everyone who came out to other shows there!!! I thanked him and asked him how many people did we have so far? He said we had 56 people so far, so we started at 9pm Sat night!! By the end of the night our door count was 120ppl!!! :D

We haven't changed the setlist so we played the first one like pros. More people kept coming in and the bartender bought us a round of Patron. We were having a BLAST!!! During the second set I could see the crowd in the back singing and dancing along with Tommy Tutone's “Jenny 867-5309” :D Later during the set I started with the wrong chord Bon Jovi's “You Give Love a Bad Name”, a C# instead of C. It sounded SO OFF that both the bass player and the other guitar player were looking at their instruments wondering if they were out of tune. I stopped playing and started again with the signature riff and we recovered well. We got thru the second set & had more shots with the crowd (120+ by now)!! The 3rd set our singer got up on the bar and the bass player & I followed her!!! All 3 of us playing Billy Idol's “Dancing with Myself” on the bar, the crowd taking pics, it was AWESOME!!! WE HAD A BLAST SAT NITE!!! I'm sure we'll be back soon!!! :D

On a side note...we didn't win in any of the categories we were nominated for :( but honestly we're REALLY were going up against some of the BIGGEST bands in Chicago. If we DID win it would've been a HUGE SURPRISE to us and everyone else at the awards ceremony. We're just going to keep plugging away and maybe in the next year or 2 we'll get some recognition!!! We'll try it again NEXT YEAR & thanks to EVERYONE who took the time to vote for us!!! :D

Let's keep the momentum going!!! Here's a reminder of our upcoming gig schedule!!

Fri 4/13 - JW Holsteins (Tinley Park)
Sat 4/14 - Shakers (Ottawa)
Sat 4/21 - Blue Chip Casino (Michigan City, IN)
Fri 5/4 - Tailgaters (Bollingbrook)
Sat 5/12 - Hollywood Casino (Joliet)
Thanks for reading and all the great comments & KEEP ROCKIN' !!!!

Always like reading your gig reports, you're on the wrong side of the wrong country for me to stop by anytime soon, but keep them coming.

Good outlook, getting nominated is recognition, just gives you something to aim for next year.

Thanks for the responses!!! Yes we need to take more pics @ shows to show the crowds we're drawing!!!

@ Stephen - Yes we're staying BUSY playing between 2-4 gigs a month!!! :D We'll see how our summer schedule plays out. The bars in the summer usually have light crowds, everyone attends festivals or BB's at home. Hopefully we can secure some festivals this summer!!! :D
