A sax player not a guitarist I know - but all the same an iconic and irreplaceable musician, one of those guys who you knew who it was as soon as they started to play and the heart of the E street band. I was never a fan of Bruce Springsteen but nevertheless I knew who Clarence Clemons was - most people did. Definitely the end of an era. RIP.

I'm shocked, I knew he was sick, but had hopes that he could pull out of it. He has had surgery before, and played from a wheelchair at one time (knee replacements). I have the greatest esteem for the man as a human being and public figure or celebrity, as a musician, and for being talented, fun and energetic, and an integral part of the band's sound as well as stage persona. Guitarist Little Steven was likewise unique, all cool characters! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Van_Zandt , http://www.spinner.ca/2010/04/29/bruce-springsteen-steven-van-zandt-born-to-run-sucked/

Didn't mean to hijack the thread but I like to offer reading material? R.I.P. Clarence there will never be another like you. :(

So, here's to the big man and his everlasting legacy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clarence_Clemons 8)

I always was a big Springsteen fan - I think I was one of the few people in the UK who actually bought "Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ" and "The Wild, the Innocent and the E-Street Shuffle" BEFORE Born To Run made Bruce a huge star over here. Clarence was always a huge presence, both physically and musically, in the band, and it wouldn't have been the same band without him.

It's a sad day for music, another of the great ones gone. Sad day for Bruce, too - that's two close friends and two great musicians he's lost in the last couple of years or so, "Phantom" Danny Federici died in 2008.

RIP, Big Man.....

Just saw them on Palladia of a couple older shows and had seen Clarance had a stroke.

He was definitely a presence.
