Someone at work just asked me last Monday if he was still alive!
I didn't know him, never met him, his innovations were before I was born ...... yet he touched my life in a big way and I feel sad. :( Excuse me while I play my Les Paul ...........................

I read it in the newspaper. Very sad news. Recently I was looking for some of his latest works due to a post on the bassist Nicki Parrot...
Thank you for your music and for your guitars Mr Paul.
RIP, LP!!
Your legacy lives on in all of us.

I wish HULU was available outside USA, but it ain't.
For the rest of us, here's the movie 'dog was talking about.
I watched it yesterday (thanks to the magic of the internet  ) and it's a great insight into the man. I wish I could have been in the audience at the Iridium to hear him live. He seems like quite the character, in addition to everything else.

About 5 years ago One of my MD friends son and daughter in law was invited to play with Less at his Monday night gig. Talk about a proud papa :D Dr. G was making his rounds about 9 pm that night and that was about all he could talk about
I was so behind on this. I didn't even know he was still alive until recently. Sometimes, I tell ya. I just ain't with it.
My wife did order me a CD. She needed to fill up a $25 Barnes and Noble to get free shipping, so she ordered me the Chester & Lester CD from something like '74. I imagine it will be quite good.
Well, RIP Les!

It's worth the wait.
But, just in case you're impatient, here's a preview:

That's quite the interesting guitar Les is playing. Bigsby style tailpiece, some switch beside the regular toggle and what appears to be oddly shaped pick-ups. My eyes could be failing me and never got a good shot of them, but they looked longer than the standard humbucker.

Hey Roy... that's a Les Paul Recording model. Here's some info on them: http://www.ntw.net/~w0ui/family_webpage/linkpages/music/music_lespaulrecording.htm and http://www.vintageguitars.org.uk/LPLI.php
I had a chance to make a pilgrimage of sorts to the Iridium in Feb. 2008 to see Les and the band (+ guests) - and I did. A great time was had by all. Les graciously signed autographs for a couple hundred folks after soaking his sore hands backstage in ice water to relieve arthritis pain. Never have I felt so at ease meeting someone famous. What a legend. What a life he had. What a great contributor to music!
