Shouldn't be any surprise. Good reminder to the younger folks that the time to start taking care of your hearing is NOW. A musician will really miss his hearing when it's gone. (Or impaired.)
"A cheerful heart is good medicine."
we have all heard about Pete Townsend's hearing losses.
he added, in a recent interview, tht his problems wasnt so much from loud stage amp levels.
he said that his loss in mainly from earphones in the studio.
he cautions the youth of today about being ready to accept deafness at a later stage of life.
paraphrasing,' Ipods and ear buds wil ruin ears faster than any loud concert.'
everywhere I go I see people on cell phones or ear plug phones.
I believe it.
what?????
Speak up sonny....
Apparently, permanent hearing damage starts at sustained levels of 80db, and (also apparently) an iPod can churn out more than that when it's focussed into those little earphones. Can't remember where I read that though.

I'm sure Keith Moons drum explosion didn't help any members of the band either. Especially Pete.
Treat others how you would like to be treated.
That stuff scares the crap out of me.
I've stopped using earbuds, and my various music players arent nearly at the volume they once were.
Now if I can only get myself to use earplugs during shows.
I pity the fool, but also suggest ways he might better himself.
12 years of working around military jet engines hasn't done my hearing any favors, even with the hearing protection we're required to wear. Thankfully, I'm in a job now where I'm not directly exposed to the aircraft and the noise...but I'll never get back what I've lost.
The worst (or possibly best, depending on your perspective  ) part is that the frequency range I'm the most deficient in also happens to be right around the level of my wife's voice. It's a constant source of frustration for both of us, because I'm always making her repeat herself.
Hearing loss is definitely no joke, especially for a musician. I'm probably going to leave the Navy with a partial disability because of mine. Bleh.
