Yes, it's not the usual title for a GN post.

I've signed up to do some professional development with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, first session was Wednesday.

The end result is I get to take part in a concert with the full orchestra - oh yeah, this should be good. I'll blog it or send it to David for the newsletter as we go on.

Go Alan!

I'm thinking you'll do the Rodrigo concerto? :)

Ooooh, that'd be nice but it's a big ask. I get the feeling it'll be more "Street Symphony" stuff if Wednesday's session is anything to go by.

It sounds like a good thing, but I'm having a hard time picturing the sound in my mind. Do you know of any examples of the type of finished product this will sound like?

Nonetheless, congrats on this gig. 8)

Congratulations indeed, Alan! I reckon for a classically trained guitarist you must be feeling pretty proud right now, if maybe a little awed? Look forward to hearing/reading how well you do. All the best, mate!

That's brilliant, I saw The RPO recently with classical guitarist Graham Roberts. It was brilliant.

Hope it all goes well for you.

Just got back from a music-making session with the RPO.

Right, you with the vioin. Give me two notes. Everybody find those two notes.

OK, piano, give me a riff around those two notes.

Guitars, give me something that works round the piano.

Everybody else try and come up with a pattern that works with what's going on.

And you play around with the mix and the dynamic and all of a sudden something sounds great and you start building on that.

It's great fun. There were more of the RPO there today, so the opening sequence was 8 notes. Can't wait for the next session.
