Kansas City Chiefs Owner Lamar Hunt Dies

DALLAS (AP) - Lamar Hunt, the Kansas City Chiefs' owner who was a founder of the American Football League and one of the leaders of the AFL-NFL merger, has died.

Remembered as a humble and inventive entrepreneur, Hunt also came up with the term “Super Bowl.” He died Wednesday night at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas due to complications from prostate cancer, Chiefs spokesman Bob Moore said. Hunt was 74.

Soccer Pioneer Lamar Hunt Dies at 74
USSoccerPlayers (December 14, 2006) -- Lamar Hunt, the original investor-operator of the Kansas City Wizards and Columbus Crew and owner of the Kansas City Chiefs, died on Wednesday night at the age of 74.

"All of us at Major League Soccer are deeply saddened by the loss of one of the true sport visionaries and a great friend to us all," said MLS Commissioner Don Garber in a statement. "On behalf of our owners, players, coaches, administrators and fans, we offer our sincerest condolences to Lamar's wife Norma, his sons Clark, Dan, Lamar, Jr., and daughter Sharron.
