did anyone grab slot 3 yet for team 2?
I don't think so.

Why doesn't dogbite take that slot?

This bt is kicking my butt! Not going to be one of my finer moments. Maybe I'll drown my part in effects, yeah, that's the ticket! :P

I'll grab slot 2 for team 2.

Did we ever determine if the progression was Bb - Db - E - G or Bb - Cb - E - G?

Bb (or A#, if you like!) then Db (or C#) the E then G. Don't mix sharps and flats! Like I said before (although I've sussed it out a bit better now) the following chords work well for rhythm...

Bbm, Dbm7, E, Gm7.

:D :D :D

Vic
To my ears the progression moves in minor thirds (root notes: Bb to Db to E to G), consistent with what Vic says. That conveniently leads back to Bb for the next segment, too.

BUT, I'm not feeling "major" for the E section, which would have a G# instead of G. To me, Em feels more natural in that part, and transitions better to the Gm section that follows.

As I was thinking about that, I got sucked into a never ending cycle of music theory. If we build each chord in the progression with only minor third intervals (the 1, b3, b5 and bb7) we end up with a series of diminished 7th chords (if that's what they're called):

Bbm: Bb - Db - E - G
Dbm: Db - E - G - Bb
Em: E - G - Bb - Db
Gm: G - Bb - Db - E

I don't know if this is at all relevant to the jam, but it had my head spinning for a while!

Trust me when I say that it'll sound 100x better than mine, I still really don't know what I'm doing, so this theory stuff people are talking about is coming in real handy with my studying.

This is one of those "Thank God for digital editing " moments
I'm finding it helps to concentrate on one chord section at a time. I'll get lucky and hit a few good notes or a nice lick and then edit out the clunkers

I was jamming with the BT yesterday and got a little more comfortable with it. Still hit a few "clunker" notes like smokindog.

I messed with it last week a little bit. Mostly trying out different effects. There are some off the wall "patches" that came on my multi-FX unit. I'm not sure if I should go off the wall with one of those or stick to some sort of minimalistic approach to an already busy piece of music. :?

Dogbite - i sent you a more detailed PM about this - but i have to pull out of this jam im afraid.

I dont want to, but school is taking my laptop off me and sending it back for some work under warrenty - all i am being given in return is a desktop in my lab at work - which i cant record on (i dont fancy moving a clunky old desktop to and from school and my house).

The problem is im not sure when i will get my laptop back and so i cant be sure i will meet the deadline, so i pulling out now to leave time for somebody to take my slot.

sorry guys - but im looking forward to hearing what you lot come up with.

hey everybody.
I just want to bring up the possibility of canceling this jam.
I am not opposed to a winter jam, but this track has me at odds.
thoughts?
yea...
nay...

Doesn't bother me too much. Anything I come up with that does sound decent with his is really not guitar-like.

I should replace the jam track with something better.

Your call, dogbite, but if there's enough interest for one group, keep me in.

I vote to either get a new bt, or cancel the jam. This bt is kicking my butt!

I'll do either, but prefer new bt. I'd rather not see the jam get cancelled.
