The backing track is at http://www.guitarbt.com/index.php?showtopic=2385

You will need to join guitarbt to get it I think....no big deal but is necissary since this forum doesn't do attachments. If you really don't want to join then maybe another participant will email it to you.

Here is the layout:

SLOT# STARTING POINT
1 BEG
2 1:04
3 1:58
4 2:25
5 3:00

These times are approximate. The song repeats a pattern, look for the end of that patern. Times start and end on measures.

How this will work: There are 5 slots available so that means there are 3 free ones. I will take the 5th being the one that is not filled in by someone else (not necissarily the last) and smokindog gets one if he wants. Put the backing track in your recording program (you may have to convert to wav format first) and record yourself on a different track. When it comes time to mix there are two mixes you need to create: one with only yourself, and one with yourself and the backing.

The first file (the one that is just you) needs to be in 128bit 44.1kHz mp3. This file will include only you and the backing track at the very beginning where the drums go 'click click'...this helps me lign up your submission in the final mix.

The second file is a low quality mix that includes only the part of the song you are playing in and is a full mix with the backing track. This helps me find any mistakes in the lign up, if any.

I wrote a tutorial on how to do this with Audacity (free multi-track recorder) at http://www.guitars101.com/vb/showthread.php?t=30219

Again, you might have to sign up to the website...once again it contains attachments (images) so I can't post it here.

You will send these mp3 files through email to [email protected] and I will mix them all together, with mine, and post it somewhere for everyone to hear.

I'll take #3 if that's ok with the rest. Might be easier if we do it in sequence, so I can hear what the guy before me is doing so there is some kind of connection between the different parts.

Recording won't be an issue, you seem to do this in the exact same way I use to do this. :D

My part is in the mail 8) 8) I used my new tele for this one :D

Arjen, in this case I think part of the fun is not knowing what any body else did ahead of time, kind of like a movie, or a book- you have to wait for the ending  I'm glad you are joining in :D :D --the dog

Shibby: we'll start another one ASAP, and if needed we can always copy&paste a few parts of the backing to allow more people to join. Kinda like a trial this one I guess.

Anyway, guess I am more or less certain of what I'm going to do with my part. Ain't bluesy, ain't hi-gain, ain't fast. Sure won't fit in with what the rest of you will be doing, judging by all of your previous works. Ah well, we'll see if I get banned for disgracing GN.
So onwards to my local electronics shop to get one of those plugs I never seem to find when I want to record something...

Arjen, I'm pretty shure you won't get banned from GN, UNLESS of course you play a DISCO part   ( although Average White Band aint so bad).

I will be gone for about 10 days, but can monitor the jams progress from my brothers computer in Indiana, I just won't be able to contribute to any new jams until i return home. I'm looking forward to hearing it.--the dog

I don't think that is such a good idea. It would be really hard to do that and not make it sound like crap. Better for those that wanted in but didn't make it to wait for the next one. That is just how this kind of thing goes. Over at guitars101 you basically have to be there as soon as it is posted or you just don't get in.

Wow, this might take a while. I only have one submission so far. I usually have at least two after the first weekend....first day usually actually. You guys do realize this is a "jam"...it doesn't have to be perfect.

noah,

Can't you just create a duplicate file with a different file name and put it out so another 5 players could join in?

Just a thought?

NRR: sorry it has been taking so long. During the weekend I was at my parents place so couldn't record, and I had some annoying bunch of tiny tech issues. Will record and send it to you within8 hours. PJ has his solo done as well.

[update] it's in your mailbox right now :D
