With multiple collaborations and jams going on and lots of new GN members joining up, here's an idea to help get some new feet wet.

I'm a beginner guitarist myself and have only participated in one jam, but it was great fun and a wonderful learning experience, so I'm hoping this project will attract a few other noobs to give it a shot in a friendly, supportive atmosphere.

Let's call it the Jam Incubator Project.

If you're a beginner guitarist and have not yet participated in a GN Online Jam or Collaboration,

I want YOU, for approximately 42 seconds.

Here is the outline for this, the first Jam Incubator:

Participation is limited to those who have not taken part in a GN jam before.

Only beginner to advanced beginner guitarists need apply.

There is no timeline for this project. It may take a while and that's fine. This is a no-stress, no-pressure project. Furreal.

Participants have creative freedom—you can play a lead or simply play along. The idea is just to get you playing, recording and collaborating.

Technical and creative support will be available if desired. If you've never used Audacity or recorded into your computer before, no problem. If I managed to do it, (and I did, with a little help from my friends), you can, too. If you record a part but you're just not sure about it, you may ask the host (moi) or other jam participants or other hospitable GN members to preview it, give encouragement, suggestions, gratuities, etc.

The backing track is slow and conducive to improvising a complementary melody--a soft rock ballad.

If you submit a part and turn around and come up with something you like better, you can re-submit . It ain't over ‘til the fat lady sings.

The final jam won't be posted until all participants have approved it.

I've not hosted a jam before, and have never done any mixing in Audacity, so I'm going to be learning as we go, as well. I'll surely prevail upon those who have experience hosting collaborations when I wake up and realize I don't know my donkey from a hole in the ground.

The backing track is in C Pentatonic Major, or at least that scale works well with it, IMO. If you need help figuring out what that means, no problem. We have Resources Up the Ying-Yang and can guide you to a safe and comfortable box position (that's a position on the fretboard, in case you haven't learned about boxes yet).

See this thread under Beginner's Q & A Forum for a cool tool to help you understand the concept of a "box" and where to find C Pentatonic Major on your fretboard: https://www.guitarnoise.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=30250

Here's the link to the backing track:

So. It's easy, it's fun, you can put it on your resume. Who wants to play? :D

Good idea Margaret.
And the song choice is cool as it is not the "standard" 12 bar blues.
Its mostly a repeting pattern of the chords C G Am F exept for the intro where the Am is substituted with a D.

Good luck to you all GN Jam newcommers with this Jam

Margaret,

If it's still available, I would like to take the "Player 4" spot.

Nice idea Margaret.

I actually chose Pink II as my first jam, but since there is no time limit on this, can I join this jam too? I'll take the Player 1 slot.

Wonderful!

I'm so happy there is interest in this, and grateful for all the offers of assistance. I will be taking you up on those offers.

I've edited the original post to put TimeZone and GoodVicHunting in for the slots they requested. [edit: putting Boogie in for Slot 1]

UrbanCowGirl and Indiana Jonesin have also expressed interest in participating, over on the Beginner's Q & A Forum, and Rahul and PearltheKat when they get computer issues worked out.

If we have more than four players commit we'll do more than one mix, just like Bish is doing with the Funk Jam. Everyone who wants to play can.

Hey!
I'm new to the board but have done quite a few jams at other forums but never in this form, different players for different spots on the same backing track.
That should be quite interesting, I really like the idea.

If there's still room, I'd like to get spot #3 in Team #2.

I'm just not sure how to submit my part.
Do you need just my track without the backing and you'll incorporate it yourself?
Or do I submit back the whole track with just my part recorded?
I guess there will be some sonic differences between all the recordings, is this something that is taken into consideration (to keep the sonic balance throughout the track) or it doesn't really matter?

Looking forward to hear you all!

Yves

If I might offer some help, sorry Margaret....
