Every once in a while I get the urge to try my hand at bass playing. I'm starting to get that feeling again and was wondering if anyone here has one of those acoustic basses (not the stand up kind, the ones that look like long guitars), and what they think of it?
My bluegrass-playing neighbor has a Martin B15. The crack is topped so I'm trying to get him to throw it away --- into my hands! It's several years old, as are the phosphor bronze strings it came with, and sounds AMAZING. Big warm tone. I'm not sure if he has the sapele or mahoney version.

Any idea what a less costly one sounds like. I'm not ready to go for a Martin at this point, I was thinking more like an Epi or Dean.
Sorry man, I've been tainted by that Martin.
I did play a very nice Breedlove 4-stringer at GC.

You gotta go out and play them, of course. There's a huge difference between a $300 and a $700 bass, IMHO.
A few people here have Michael Kelly basses and seem to like them.
