That's cool. I'd like to actually see it thought, that picture is useless. Cool idea though.

Off He Goes:

Yep, the picture is not much good, there was a better one with the original Canadian Press article in the paper.

CBC Newsworld had a 1/2 hour documentary on Canada Day evening about it. I had too many beers by then and forgot about it! Waiting for the repeat.

Too many beers, eh?!

It is a small world for metal fanatics. I welcome you fellow musicians, especially the metalheads!

[Sounds like a good way to spend Canada day. I went swimming in the day, and had a big party here that night, and rediscovered the funniest thing ever. 4 of my friends being drunk and singing along to the Temptations, one with no shirt on, pretending to be David Ruffin, and the other three as backup, complete with dancing. That's the best way to celebrate Canada Day.

Sound like fun. We sang along to my "Canadian Gold" collection-- featuring the likes of Steel River, Edward Bear, Mashmakan, Poppy Family, Five Man Electrical Band etc etc. Part of my headache the next day was due to excessive laughter I believe.

Here's a couple more articles, with a few more painfuly small pictures.

http://www.cbc.ca/documentaries/canadianguitar.html
http://www.cbc.ca/story/arts/national/2006/06/30/guitar-canada.html

And a Real Media video clip here:
http://cbc.ca/newsatsixns/media/20060620ns_6string_nation.ram
it runs about 2 and a half min.

Also there is a sparse web site about the project here:
http://sixstringnation.com/

I would hope they will post some pictures there eventually. There is a list of cities/events where the guitar will be touring this summer (including the Winnipeg Folk Festival this coming weekend!

EDIT:
pictures!!! of the guitar some of it's friends

I wrapped a newspaper ’round my head
So I looked like I was deep

I finally got to hold it, and it's amazing!

bigger pic
The luthier did such a great job putting together a bunch of seemingly random elements into a truly great instrument.
The wood looks so much better in person, than in pictures.
I especially love the look of the oak on the back and sides, which comes from a building right here in Winnipeg (which was built in 1845, and is still standing less than a kilometer from where this picture was taken!)

And they even let me play it for a few minutes.
That 300 year old Sitka spruce top sounds incredible.

Oh... The guitar is on tour around Canada again, and this week is at Festival du Voyageur in Winnipeg.
They are taking photos of anyone who wants to hold the guitar.
Since there was no lineup at the time I stopped by, they let me play it until someone else came along.
:D :D :D 8)
