I'm curious to know what (if anything) you all think of Ani DiFranco. I've been listening to her stuff alot lately (in between bouts of U2) and while she's always been my favorite singer/songwriter, I'm beginning to really really dig her guitar work. It's extremely unique, imo. she uses mostly alternate tunings but her picking style is awesome. Makes for some jangly type melodies that i just get lost in. Any opinions?

I haven't actually heard her..but I did read an article on her in Frets magizine(I got it with guitar player one time when it came). She sounds like a pretty neat person. :D

I think she's a pretty good guitarist and poet, well...maybe better. Her picking style is sweet. It's easier to tell that she's playing guitar, then say Sheryl Crow or Jewel, me thinks. I also saw her once on PBS performing at either Red Rocks or Fiddlers Green in Colorado, great concert.

I have 3 of her albums. :D

that's awesome t hat you mention her poetry, cos one of her latest albums has some spoken poetry on it and one of them (the true story of what was) is my absolute favorite poem. Her songs also have an incredible poetic feel and they definitely stand up on their own without music.

I have a DVD of hers called Trust and when they focus in on her hands you can see that her picking fingers are totally wrapped with electrical tape down to the nails. But i guess when you're attacking a guitar that ferociously with bare fingers it gets a little painful.

I'm dying to see her live eventually.

The albums that I got are "Not A Pretty Girl," "Reconing," and "Revelling."
Hard to keep up with her material b/c she releasing a new album about every 6 months or so.

Yeah you can find her in any music sttore, but there prolly wont be a huge selection, as some of her earlier titles are harder to find. But her newest and more popular ones you will definitely find. She's been around for a while

I love Ani! I've seen her live twice and both have been spectacular. She has so much energy when she plays. It just feels like she always means every word she's saying. You can always order her CDs from her website.

U2Bono, I believe Ani uses acrylic nails with the electical tape for added support.

One of my teachers told me about Ani Difranco. I really love her music, and I extremely love her cover of "When Doves Cry." She has great lyrics, great vocal work, and amazing guitar.

On a side note, my teacher changed her name to Ani, and I always wondered if it was like a tribute to her or something.

That's her record label, Nils. I think that's also considered her official website.

I realized that but since there are other artists on there also I didn't want to say it was "her" site. I posted it primarily since they sold her music as others were asking for it.
