I am at work so I will give all this a listen tonight. next week I have off. all week so I can spend more time for 'the band'.
Dag, I could come up with "something" if you give me a shot. Not a complete song, but something.
What instrument/part?
If not drum.. I could lay down perfectly timed track and let you build on it.
I got this new MIDI-Controller and it came with Ableton Live 6 and has some impressive sounding drum kits as well as other instruments, and I'm chomping at the bit to finally learn/put it to good use :)
Either way we'll have fun, I know that :)

So I figured out how to Morph the tempo..this one sounds better (timing is better).
Check it out.... its not the whole song but a good minute or so...

again I'm just dabbling with my new software..... :)

again I'm just dabbling with my new software..... :) Basics sound good, as soon as vic posts a chord chart and lyrics I'll put together something to add. You good with mixing it all down Dag?

Later tonight do you? Busy babysitting at the moment.....shouldn't be too hard to suss out, it's basically D C G and A chords played in open G with a couple of hammer-ons here and there. Done on a Telecaster, of course......

ok. I am home and have a whole week off. great song Vic. all my slide gear is tuned open G so I will work out slide fills and or licks.
thanks for taking on the drum. if I may make a suggestion??? the song needs a good down beat after the intro ; a good whack...aka Charlie Watts. otherwise I like the snare and lick you have got there.
I am going to try to download Vic's guitar and vocal and get it into my recording program. I hope to post a few things fairly soon.
Hey DB, I was thinking the same thing....
All I was trying to accomplish was learning how to morph a basic beat to Vic's Track. I'll take it and 'frill' it up a bit no worries.
As far as mixing down. What I'm learning about Ableton Live 6 is that it can and will do a great mix-down for sure and if someone get a little off, this program has an auto morph to it to do subtle tempo changes as needed without pitch variance.
Its pretty awesome actually.....
Looking forward to progressing along with this. I was wondering if we might not want to take this to a side post/thread though????

dag...we're thinking alike. I got Vic's song up on recording software and played around with some lap steel. I definately can come up with fills .
I need to spend time just listening to the song to get a good understanding of the song structure; chord changes, etc.
right now I have a few standard steel fill patterns. just need to understand when to put them in. I may grab my strat and play standard to get the right feel, timing. then go back in with my lap steel.
a play sheet would come in handy.
maybe the lyrics where I could write in the chords. do we have that?
I think this was his original post from the SSG board.

It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.

Vic is going to be sending it along, I've got some ideas for an intro, and possibly a riff off the vocal, but I need to listen a bit more as well.

excellent.
Phew, that's been a mad weekend - having a hyperactive non-sleepy rugrat around has really worn me out! Haven't had a chance to tab out the chords yet, and I'm going to crawl into bed in a minute, but what I'll do in the AM - I have nothing to do tomorrow! - is re-record the song using my camera, focussing on the chords as well as tabbing it out. That way you should all be able to get a sense of the timing etc.
Dogbite, lap steel should be cool for the fills, etc - I was actually thinking originally of using one guitar in open G for the rhythm guitar, and sticking in open G for the lead and fills for the second guitar part.
Anyway, I'm off to bed - more in the AM.

OK, things happened, I got delayed....and let me tell you, this was a PIG to tab out! Haven't managed to record a video clip yet, as my daughter had borrowed the camera and only managed to give it me back today....it's been charging up all night.
I WILL record the damn song in the morning, so's you can see exactly how it all fits together....that's if I can manage it with no fumbles!
Anyway, here's the tab - there's a lot of it, and it looks more complicated than it is - really, it's just open chords with additions. It's all about the timing.
If Teleplayer, Dogbite and Roy want to do the guitars, that's fine by me....I'd suggest the tab played in open G on electric (I'll make a note of the settings I'll use....), maybe Dogbite doing fills on lap or slide, and Roy maybe playing the rhythm chords on clean electric or acoustic, again in open G? Feel free to sort out the details between yourselves....
I could add either piano or organ (or both, or neither.....) and bass, if no-one else wants the bassline....
Anyway, here's the (swear-word deleted) tab.....Devil In The Boy (Vic Lewis)

Second verse lyrics.....
He's got a taste for excess,
And the trappings of rock'n'roll fame,
Doesn't know when to stop,
He can't see it's all a game,
He plays the blues like his soul,
Was forged in the fires of hell,
It's like he's someone else,
Posessed by a demonic spell......
Then it's the pre-chorus again....
"They say he went to the crossroads"....etc
Followed by the A/D+9 riff that leads into the chorus....
Then the chorus itself.
Any questions, ask away and I WILL do the video clip tomorrow!

Took me longer than I thought - unless I'm playing fairly easy open chords, I still find it a bugger to play and sing at the same time. This is about the best version, even though there's a couple of little fluffs - I tried to concentrate more on guitar than vocals, so the vocals are pretty mediocre. But what the hell, at least it'll give you a rough idea of the chord shapes and timing.

8) Vic. thanks for your hard work. the vid is very helpful.
presently I am off to do my out of town work thing. back on monday (a holiday in the States). I will get on this like Ronnie Wood at a Stones jam.
sounds good. you play well. voice ain't bad either.
