I last inquired about a good Les Paul copy. Well, I ended up trading in my PRS SE and buying a Gibson Les Paul Studio. I love the thing to death. Now I'd like to add a good Strat for around $400. I know I can get a MIM Strat for that price, but is there another brand that would give me more bang for my buck and still maintain that Strat sound? Should I just save my money and hold out for an American Strat or perhaps the Deluxe Strat?
if you get lucky you can probably pick up a used American Fender Highway 1 strat for about $400.

Have a look at the G&Ls as well- American and Korean made. Don't be afraid of trying the older Fenders and Squiers- Japanese made as well as the Korean Squier Pro Tone.
