Johnny Cash's version of "Personal Jesus"
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK. Here's my list:
John Cale - 'Hallelujah'. (His version is the one heard in Shrek 1 the movie, but the soundtrack album has Rufus Wainwright's version.)
Bryan Ferry. 'Smoke gets in your Eyes'.
Otis Redding - Satisfaction'.
Alice Cooper - ' Hello , Hooray'.
David Bowie - 'God Only Knows'.
Ray Charles - ' Yesterday'
Elvis Costello - (What's so Funny about) Peace Love and Understanding
Pixies -'I Can't Forget'
Lloyd Cole - 'Chelsea Hotel'
OK. Here's my list:
Otis Redding - Satisfaction'.
Funny you should mention this one. In several interviews Keith Richards has said this is the way he envisioned the song sounding, that Otis did it the way it was suppose to be done. When he did the riff for this he imagined it as a horn riff
Immature? Of course I'm immature Einstein, I'm 50 and in a Rock and ROll band.

In the Worst Cover Song thread someone posted an ugly version of Satisfaction by (who other than) Britney Spears.
Now I want to show you the opposite: This is one of my favorite guitarist/songwriters, the great Richard Thompson, doing something bizarre: an acoustic version of Britney's 'Oops I Did it again.'

lol
If you're going to cover a Stones song, there are certain rules to be observed;
1 - make sure you pick a good song.
2 - make sure you can do it justice
3 - make sure you've got a great band backing you.....
4 - it helps if you're a close friend of Keef's.....
5 - it also helps if you can use a backing track put together by the Stones, but you still need a great voice....
and an object lesson in how NOT to cover a Stones song....should really go in the "worst covers" thread....
:D :D :D

"Sometimes the beauty of music can help us all find strength to deal with all the curves life can throw us." (D. Hodge.)
For those nostalgic fans of Peter Gabriel of the 70's (rather than this old bald monk that we see from time to time) here is a real nice rarity:
Johnny Cash - Hurt
The Who - Summertime Blues
Led Zeppelin - All of the blues songs they covered 8)
Dan
"The only way I know that guarantees no mistakes is not to play and that's simply not an option". David Hodge
The Who - Summertime Blues
Dan
My MP3 player has Summertime Blues - Eddie Cochran, followed by.....
Summertime Blues - Who
Brilliant
Gary Moore - Wishing Well.
Not really a song, but Sabre Dance - Love Sculpture.
I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
