Hey, didn't she date Tom Waits for a long while????

Yep. IIRC, Rickie Lee Jones eventually gave up on the rustic Waits lifestyle.

RLJ's debut album was fantastic. I thought about adding her to the list as well as 'Retha, Patty Griffin, Sarah Vaughn, Suzanne Vega (Nine Objects of Desire album!), Diane Schuur, Patty Smith ...

Why the heck not: Check out our national rock export, anouk: http://youtube.com/watch?v=c5THDfPdnto&feature=related

There's a pretty wicked solo at the end too, so double fun.

I like her voice! Very strong and pure! :D

Greg,

yup, Dogma is awesome...some great lines! But AR does an excellent Sheriff of Nottingham, too - totally saved that movie from being complete rubbish, imho.

Didn't Tom ditch Rickie to marry Kathleen Brennan?

The mention of RLJ reminded me of another I had forgotten about Maria Muldaur

I saw Heart last year. Ann Wilson is unbelievable.

Also, on my list for female voice are Jenny Haan (Babe Ruth) and Melissa MacAuthur (Schlongs "Punk Side Story").

+1 to Heart. Both Ann and Nancy.

Ann plays many instraments. Nancy is quite the guitar slinger as well!!! They are great and do a great show!

I'll add my vote for Heart as well.

This goes back a couple of weeks (maybe even months), but did anyone happen to see Heart perform live on VH1 (I think it was for one of those Rock and Roll Hall of Fame type inductions). Anyway, there was a band that did a tribute version of Barracuda right before Heart came on and the gal who did the song was just flat out AMAZING!!! If you know what I'm refering too, I'd love to find out who she was.

DId anyone mention Jewel?

She's awesome. BTW, I've heard she's looking for me. If you run into her, tell her I'm right here waiting for her. 8)

Forgot to mention runner ups.

Disclaimer: These choices were determined by the judges (me) based on what they would want to add to their iPod to listen to if they were stranded on an island the rest of their lives.

The following met that category (not necessarily because they were the best, but because other nominees might have already been on said iPod.)

1st runnerup:
Linda Perry nominated by ElectraBlue
http://youtube.com/watch?v=chysEoANK7c
2nd runnerup:
Amy Winehouse (cokehead and all) nominated by gnease, seconded by StormyMonday
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ug2UuwRLaZI
Honorable Mention:
Anouk nominated by Arjen (probably out of national pride)
What country is that?

I would be remiss if I totally spaced on Diana Krall. She does quite a variety, although the old standards & Jazz seem to be her best.
