Guys I'm going to buy myself an electric guitar. I am interested in playing a lot of metal(metallica) etc but also other lighter stuff. Basically all around.
Here are my options I am wondering which ones to go with, would greatly appreciate your opinions:

Option 1: http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Electric-ST-Left-Hand-and-Amp-Pack-Black/6CG

Basically the cheapest electric available. I am thinking either

a) because I am still a beginner this should be enough for now, once I get more serious and get better then I can invest my money into a better guitar, as I will know what I'll be looking for and generally be able to spend more money then I can ATM.

b) The guitar will sound and feel terrible and I won't even enjoy playing it, it'll start malfunctioning very soon, and I'll regreat buying it.

Option 2: http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Yamaha-ERG121-Guitar-Starter-Pack-Black/1KK

Pretty standard beginner guitar, comes with everything I will need. Still a little cheap, will probably be reliable etc, but nothing to great. Safe option, still quite cheaply built. Will be spending quite a bit more then on Option 1. so it has to be worth it.

Option 3: http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Yamaha-Pacifica-112-V-Electric-Guitar-Sunburst/844 + amp and accessories seperatly.

Will cost a little more then Option 3, but this will be solid beginner guitar that will play and last pretty well.

If so could you guys pick out a good amp, and maybe a better guitar for me from that website, it all has to come to about 200-250£

Guys I would greatly appreciate your feedback... as I am looking to order this pretty soon.

Will pro

I'd go with the Pacifica.

I've never played one, but they have a decent reputation for a beginner guitar. Cheaper guitars tend to be harder to play, break more often, and have lackluster tone.

The Pacifica looks like a standard strat, so you can always upgrade the pickups in the future if you like the guitar and want to improve the tone. They even sell the pickup sets for strats already wired so you can just pop one out and the other in.

I'd also advise you to get it from a local music dealer if you can. They will usually set the guitar up for you, make sure the neck is straight, the action is good, and the intonation is good. Plus you can put your hands on it first and try it out to see if you like the way it feels.

Most music stores will compete with the mail order houses, so you won't pay much more if any, plus you get the extra services only a local music store can give you.

I can't help with the amp, as I use an amp-simulator/FX/direct-box pedal into my PA system.

Good luck,

I agree with Notes, The Pacifica is a very good guitar. I played several, the 112 and also more expensive models and they good guitars, easy to play, good components, etc. Generally Yamaha also has very good entry level instruments.

Concerning amps. I had a small Marshall, 15 watts. It sounded good and it also has some effects to play with. I gave it to somebody who wanted to play the same music and it seems he liked it. There are more alternatives.

Good one. Any updates, I've missed it all for awhile. Did you get your Yammy? Maybe you posted elsewhere on the forum, Will.

Congrats are in order anyway, and soon you'll be playing some Christmas tunes, or just enjoying the new guitar I hope. :D
