...only thing I know how to do is to keep on keepin' on...

Neil Peart gets my vote too, but I think John Dolmayan (sp) from SOAD hits them harder.

I have always felt that it is better to do what is beautiful than what is 'right'" - Eliot Fisk

Ginger Baker comes to mind. He was one of the first to use gnarly percussion instruments like the tympani in rock and roll. He was pretty darn good at improvising too.
I also dig Mitch Mitchell. His drumming complimented electric and bass guitars quite well.
I know there are Jazz percussionists out there that would have kicked both of their butts, but they are just a couple of my all around fav's.
At this time I would like to tell you that NO MATTER WHAT...IT IS WITH GOD. HE IS GRACIOUS AND MERCIFUL. HIS WAY IS IN LOVE, THROUGH WHICH WE ALL ARE. IT IS TRULY -- A LOVE SUPREME --. John Coltrane
Tommy Emmanuel... Him playing guitar and drumming on his guitar is AWSOME

“The hardest thing in life is to know which bridge to cross and which to burn” - David Russell (Scottish classical Guitarist. b.1942)
Charlie Watts.
Just a fantastic time keeper.
For improvisation, has to be Keef Moon the Loon!
Matt
For all of the music I have heard and familiar with, I am going with John Bonham.
Treat others how you would like to be treated.
Charlie Watts is great as both a Rock and a Jazz Drummer.
I also really enjoy Raul Rekow, the Conga Player from Santana
Terry Bozzio is amazing, listen to some of his work with Jeff Beck
Immature? Of course I'm immature Einstein, I'm 50 and in a Rock and ROll band.
