So what's your favorite?

Vote for your favorite OUT OF THOSE.

Think of it as an archetype vote, if you must, rather than a vote specifically between companies.

Feel free to say why you think what you think here...

Do something you love and you'll never work a day in your life...

Gibson isn't the BEST brand, but it is my favorite. I guess the BEST depends on who you're talking to.

I love my les paul, the feel of it, its warm fat tone, the beautiful AAA finish on it. Part of me wishes I had gotten a double cutaway though.

Tough one. To start with, I don't like Gibson. The guitars are fine, no doubt there, but there is something elitist/snobbish about it that I just can't stand. Fender is cool (despite having the same prob as Gibson, albeit in a lesser way). I thoroughly dislike Jackson. I'm sure the guitars are great, but if you need pornstars to sell them you're obviously doing something wrong. PRS makes awesome guitars, maybe even the best factory guitars of all. Bit too flashy and smooth for me, but a fine brand.

So wel'll end with Ibanez. In the <800USD priceclass they make by far superior guitars to any of the other four (IMHO, ofcourse). No idea how the higher end Ibanez guitars measure up, but since I can't afford those anyway my vote goes to Ibanez.

Would have liked to see Godin, Yamaha and Dean up in the list. Great companies who seem to be very underestimated. If we go for upperclass stuff people might want to see Rickenbacker and Gretsch up there.

This pretty confusing, Cat. You've asked at least three different Q's:

Favorite? What one likes the most -- a personal choice

Best? Top dog in terms of ?????

Archetype? Who has spawned the "best" original designs (which may have been improved upon by others)

I think the last is the most interesting question. Tie goes to Fender and Gibson -- though I usually opt to buy other, better executed brands than F and G.

I love the tone of Les Pauls, but don't like the way they play. I also like SGs, they play well and sound great. But I do not like the quality of Gibson guitars, or price. WAY overpriced IMHO.

I love the playability, flexibility, quality, and reasonable cost of Fenders. That was my vote.

It's probably stupid, but I hate Jacksons just because of the way they look.
The few I've played did not feel that good to me.

Never played a PRS, but they sure look like a great quality guitar.

Two brands that were not mentioned that I like very much are Gretsch and Rickenbacker. They are fantastic guitars but a little beyond my range pricewise.

If you know something better than Rock and Roll, I'd like to hear it - Jerry Lee Lewis

I'm a fender kind of guy, I like the tone and the price is right. Gibson vs. Fender is like apples to oranges, both are great guitars and have good qaulities. I think most other brands are basically copies of fenders or gibsons or a combination of the two.

Gretches and RICs are great also, i had a RIC in the early 70's, a black one like Johns :D --I still kick my own ass once in a while for trading it !!!!! :lol: :lol:

My favorites are Fender and Gibson. Ibanez, Jackson and PRS all make fine instruments, but though I might try an Ibanez one day it would be only because they seem to be always evolving. Jackson and PRS seem to be happy to rest on their laurels - in my opinion.

As far as 'best' maybe the PRSs because of build quality - and prolly the Jacksons - but I'd never buy either. To me in my old school way of looking at things, the PRSs are over the top Gibsons basically, and the Jacksons, to a certain degree are over the top Fenders.

Again, the Ibanez's always seem inventive - like that tremolo they designed. Any good anyone?

But between Fender and Gibson it would be Fender. I was a Gibson guy at one point (for a few years), and then got a Strat, totally hated it to pieces and finally found out how to let 'it' play. After that the Strat was all there was for me.

And if it were time for another guitar, it would prolly be a Tele.

Oh and then an SG - see how it seesaws? But it's usually Fender first. Though I have to admit that Gibson has more models that look interesting. For Fender it's (for me) just the Strat and Tele. For the Gibson side it's the SG, Explorer, Birdland, ES-175, and heck, even those 30s style L type acoustics - the small guys.

Would I get another Les Paul? No. One pretty much covers everything.

Would I get another Strat? Yes. One pretty much covers everything, but they're such 'individuals;' it would be interesting to see what sort of personality a different one had. Besides I'd leave it stock this time and actually get to fool around with the tone controls :)

By the way, anyone know of a petition we could sign to get Switchcraft to make a 7-position blade switch? :wink:

Yah I guess it wouldn't be THAT stock lol!

Or that control from Firefox with Eastwood...except wait...no. You have to 'think in Russian.'

Switchcraft Guys? Are you reading this?

It's simple:

1 = B
2 = B+M
3 = B+M+N
4 = M
5 = M+N
6 = N
7 = B+N

Or something like that :)

The B+M+N and B+N are really cool sounds though.

Wow, I thought the title of this thread was "Favorite electric guitar BAND."

So my planned post would make no sense. Sorry.

Blame it on the lies that killed us, blame it on the truth that ran us down.

Ovation, the electrics and the aucostics. I mean, they were the first people to have an aucostic electric guitar, and invented active pickups.

Hi. Best one? man, that's tough. I'm trying to save for a LP studio.
I guess I should vote for gibson, but I really do like the IceMan.
PRS? Sure they are good axes, I played on one, but I just don't
thing they are worth a third of what I seen them priced for.
Fender...... I just don't know about them anymore. I meann
this one's from indonesia, this ones from Mexico, This one's from Ghana,
and it seems that production standards vary as wildly as the production locations. Jackson? A friend of mine I jammed with had two a Charvel and
a regular Jackson, Both strat types. They were great for metal and ...they were great for metal and if you wanted to, they were great for metal.
Ibanez seems like a logical choice, but I remember too many of them
always having something or another wrong with them somewhere
or another. (bad pot on one, loose wire on another, Toggle boggle on another...) And I think Gibsons are kinda like PRS with egotisitcal pricing.

Uhhh.... what about Guild?

I have a strat that I like, but after I bought my 57' historic Les Paul Goldtop, I was sold. I really like the feel of this guitar and it plays like butta.

Beyond those choices, my favorite guitar is my Heritage H575. Now that's a quality crafted guitar!

Man. that's a HARD choice. I've got a Fender, a Gibson, and an Ibanez electric. None of the three sits idle more than a day or two, and all three travel to gigs with me, where I may play just one all night, or swap between all three, depending on the room and/or the set list.

All three are great guitars, and I can't choose an overall best at all. The best I can do is, "Which one do I wanna play right now?"

Playing guitar and never playing for others is like studying medicine and never working in a clinic.

I bought a Les Paul Artist back in 1982 . My older brother had a Fender Strat that I played a few times but I didn't like the way it felt or sounded . I guess I got used to the Aria SG copy that my parents bought for me when I was 16 and the humbuckers definitely sounded better , to me at least . I guess I felt that the Strat was fine as a lead instrument but lacked the tone for rhythm playing . Another turn-off was the little adjustment screws that dig into the right hand when you palm-mute . Of course , the main reason I bought it (and most people buy guitars) is that it just looked so awesome with all that gold hardware and mother-of-pearl inlays and I HAD to have it or all that money would have burned a huge hole in the pocket of my pants . I have never regretted my choice .

If I claim to be a wise man , it surely means that I don't know .
