Maybe it was just me, but I did watch Maradona wiping a tear when Germany were 3-0 in today's match.

Aww crap! I missed this!!! Good news tho - the game was broadcast by BBC, so I can watch it again (and again and again) on catch up! For some reason, only the games broadcast by the BBC are on catch up, the ones broadcast by ITV aren't. It's really weird.

Pre-match build up is on now. I'm calling it 2-0 Spain. Think they'll fall back and defend at 2. They'll pick up 3 yellow cards. Paraguay will pick up more. Villa to score both. Or Llorente to score one. Llorente to start. Torres to cry sitting on the bench.

Here you go Sara - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qi0D2aHvV6I&feature=player_embedded #!

This video shows Maradona's reaction after each goal scored by Germany today. He breaks down after the 3rd goal onto the shoulders of his player.

Now you can watch it over and over and over. :P

On account of Paraguay's height, I hereby change my prediction to either 2-1 or 1-0 Spain win.

Torres looks a little more sprightly and hungry today, though.

Scrap tha, Torres does look a bit more hungry, but still as sloppy and tired as before. It says a lot about Spain that he is looking one of their better players.

What happened to Puyol being a rock in defence?!? What happened to Ramos' crazy runs?!? Why has Alonso only had five touches on the ball so far?!? In short, where the heck are Spain tonight?!?

Could this be yet another World Cup upset? I sure hope not. I cheered you guys on from Malaga airport!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get into it already!

And Paraguay really should have been awarded that goal. But c'mon Spain!!!!!

2ndhalf.....

And just in case I broke something with my earlier post about Casillas - I really really really really really don't fancy any of the Spain players. Honest. At least for until August. I swear.

Nice monologue

Scrybe, did you know Villa was a billiards player?

¡Illa, illa, illa, Villa maravilla!

Time for celebration.

Next step: Germany.

It will be not easy. But Germany plays football so it will better for Spain (I mean, teams like Paraguay or Switzerland just defend and wait for a mistake of the opposite team).

+1 on Vic's comments about Maradona. Is correct the term "big mouth"?

Big mouth is good. Maradona said "God is on our side - we will beat Germany and we will win the World Cup." Not in so many words. I just thought, you arrogant, arrogant (Censored!) - hand of God? Oops, no, you cheated. World Cup '94? Guess who was out of his head on drugs? What amazes me, is that some people think Maradona was the greatest footballer ever - sorry, he was a cheat on and off the pitch. Pele was the greatest - always will be. There'll never be another Pele. George Best was close - but he was another great footballer who fell prey to booze and drugs. me, I'd rather have another Kevin Keegan - not the most naturally gifted footballer, but he made up for it by giving 100% for every team he ever played for - or managed.

Maradona? Ha, ha, ha - go home. Shame about the gifted players he's got in his squad....but I could never, ever, ever enjoy watching a football team managed by the biggest cheat in the history of football, EVER!

Oh, and I'm backing Spain to beat Germany - you heard it here first!

C'MON, SPAIN!!!!!

:D :D :D

Massive, massive +1 to that.

Funny, with all the hype I'd heard of late about Messi, I checked a bunch of "Messi is God" style youtube vids and wasn't overly impressed. Guy has skills, but I think he's easy to read and a good defender should be able to shut him out of the game if they've got matchable pace. He has a really weak right foot and always always favours his left. He moves in predictable ways once you watch him make a bunch of runs. I'm not sure he really did "have a bad world cup" - I'm starting to think his opponents just did their homework on him. Same goes for the other "top stars" like Ronaldo. If they had the greatness of a Zidane, Pele, etc., they would have changed it up and shone as a result.

Leaving the headbutt out of it for a moment......

Zidane could still work magic against strong Brazilian, Italian, etc., teams at the last World Cup. That was his third or fourth World Cup.

Pele could still defy all opponents in 1970, despite it being his 4th World Cup.

They changed their game up to maintain unpredictability. And they both played for their team, instead of a personal show-off exhibition. Lessons to be learned here?

Oh Yea!

Threatens?

Like a worthless employee threatens that the Company will 'suffer' if he quits.

Mr. Maradona, the only thing you need to do now is to find out what went wrong with that football team of yours and then quit gracefully.

Lets hope you are not pelted by stones when your enter Argentina again (if you can actually do that with your clothes still on).
