Well, quite frankly, its not going to help your guitar playing skills in any way. I mean, maybe if it used strings or something...Or, came with some cool extras like a drum machine or metronome or play along band or something...

I bet in the time it takes to beat the thing on master or whatever, you could have already got a couple of those songs dialed on an actuall guitar. And, doing that is much cooler than being able to say that you can really kick butt in Guitar Hero. That said, it would probably be a nice way to introduce your little ones to the instrument as noted earlier. And, I guess if a guitarist is going to play a video game, it might as well be that one.THANK YOU!!![[finaly some one gets the truth. it just a side thing of guitar. the people who made the game don't even play guitar.GIT SNAKE BIT!!!

Actually, that's not true. It's developed by Harmonix, who basically specialize in making music-based video games. I think most of their programmers are musicians of some sort, and a lot of them play guitar. In fact, a lot of the bonus indie songs in the game are from bands that various programmers in the company are in.

That said, it definitely won't help your real guitar playing, aside from maybe getting better at rhythm. But still, it's a blast to play if you give it a chance. The sequel is due out in November, and is going to include a 2-player coop mode for every song, where one player will play lead guitar while the 2nd player will play either rhythm or bass guitar. Can't wait!

I should try the new one coming out. My PS2 has been collecting dust since Tekken 5 came out. Plus I don't think I'm going to be able to aford the next generation systems, so I might as well squeeze all the blood out of this one I can.

For anyone interested in practicing Guitar Hero songs on your actual guitar, I believe there has been some free Windows software developed to do just that. Check out the Guitar Hero Trainer.

I like the fact that all of us can play Guitar Hero, but correctly, and with a real guitar
This is EXACTLY how I felt. Played it over the xmas holiday, it sure mad me feel good to know I could play those damn songs on the real thing! And let's face it, they are NOT going to get groupies with that thing. :P

I tried it once in store. Took me about fourty seconds to realise this was not going to be my cup of tea. Maybe I'm ignorant but why would someone practice fake guitar skills if you could just as easily learn real guitar skills. And, no offensen intended, purely describing my experience, it made me feel somewhat like a wanker. In a way playing GH seems to relate to playing a real guitar as watching an 80s porn movie to having a proper relation, with the whole 'yeah I'm actually really a rock star' thing going on. And I know this could sound offense in many different way, take it for what it's worth.

Then again, maybe it's just that I don't like games in which I can't kill frogs. You just gotta included those frogs...

There is a left handed option in the menu. However with the guitar that comes with the game that would mean the wammy bar is on the top of the strum button.. Kind of akward but useable. Hope that helps.

:) Yup, agree with you on that. I haven't played it, just seen the commercials on tv. Seems to me to be just a game for kids.

I personally prefer FPS's. Then again, it could certainly be said that FPS's are to real combat as GH is to playing a real guitar. :)

I think it's a good thing. One of my new students came for lessons because he'd gotten Guitar Hero and found it was so much fun he wanted to play "for real".

I like it and my son loves it.
A guitar playing friend tried it one day at mine and enjoyed it so much he got his brother to get it him for Xmas.
In the new one you can play 2 player, 1 taking lead and the other bass or rhythm, also a lot of laughs after a few beers.

To understand this you would have to look into the gamer psyche, which is something that is best left unexamined.

Lol, very true. I used to be a huge gamer and my brother still is...and yeah, the gamer mindset is not something to be triffled with. Think of how some people just don't get a certian music genre (say 80's rock or maybe classical music), yet you still love it. It's the same, only worse with gaming. I have to say though, personally, I think the game is a blast! Sure, it's not going to help my real guitar skills, and yeah, I could probably be using that time to actually practice a song on an actual guitar, but if I'm haning around with my friends and they want to play a video game, it's one game that's I find to be loads of fun. Plus, you get to listen to cool music while you play. And, even if the game doesn't help your guitar skills, the hand-eye coordination that you have from playing the guitar and sight-reading real music gives you a definite edge in the game ;)!
