Anyone else reading it? I just finished it, and I was amazed. It is arguably the best book in the series, and quite frankly I didn't think any of them would be better than Goblet of Fire.
Immature? Of course I'm immature Einstein, I'm 50 and in a Rock and ROll band.

I am actually listening to it now. I pre-ordered the CD's 2 months ago from Barnes and Noble and they arrived yesterday so I am just getting started.
I have been a HP fan since book 1 and have listened to all of them multiple times. So far Goblet of Fire has been my favorite also. I have the books also but I don't have much time to read so I listen in the car, at home, on my laptop wherever I can.
I will let you know when I am done
I agree it's very good.
But frankly I'm pissed about the ending.
I had expected something more intriguing given how "skilled" Snape is said to be throughout the whole thing. I just kind of felt that the whole point of the plot was setting up this bit of intrigue and then it's forgotten about and they go ahead with the most obvious ending . . .
On the flip side, that in itself is something of a plot twist -- going straight when you expect a sudden turn ... so I can't complain. Really can't wait for the next one.

I think there may be another series down the road, an older harry as head of hogwarts, but that's just a guess on my part

I just finished it. I think Rowling's writing has improved all around but I am not as thirlled with this book for some reason. Maybe it is the ending. The book is far more character driven and not as much on action. I was hoping something more was going to happen with Sirius because the last time we were left hanging on Harry trying to contact him.
It's not easy being green.... good thing I'm purple.
according to mugglenet.com, the 7th book is suppose to answer the questions about sirrius

I was worried it would never resolve the fact that it left us hanging from book 6. I also wanted to say, I see a Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor Harry Potter.

From here on out, I declare a ban on all spoilers as I'm reading it now... It's pretty good, I'm liking it..
My favorite Harry Potter books, in this order:
1. 4th
2. 6th
3. 5th
4. 3rd
5. 1st
6. 2nd
For some reason, I didn't really like Chamber of Secrets, but I really liked the 3rd book...

No spoilers yo-yo, just guesses at what the furture might hold for Harry after this series is completed

Belive me, I thought the EXACT same thing as you did, and then a friend finally convinced me to read one... Now I have every book, and have read every one (Except the 6th, which I'm reading now) more than 3 times... :)

I just find them to be well written and a great escape from the BS of the rest of the world. They may have originally been written for kids but there is something for everyone.
They're not great literature, but they're good stories.
Frankly, I think there are much better kids book series out there. The Golden Compass series for example is much better written, is much more original and has a richer plot. However, literary criticism aside, it captures the imagination and is purely fun.
Sometimes reading just needs to be enjoyable escapism, and the HP books give that in spades.
