House Rulz!!
#4491....
I suppose he's only been famous in the US since "House" - here in the UK he's been around for a LONG time, I'd say since about the late 70's. He was one half of a long-lasting comedy duo with Stephen Fry, and frequently played various musical instruments during musical skits in their shows. I know he also plays piano, as well as guitar and harmonica....I think he plays sax and oboe as well.
Talented man - and very funny with it!

I'll have to see if i can find some of those Fry & Laurie shows on video. i remember him mostly from the Black Adder and of course my kids pointed out his voice in several disney flicks and the Stuart Little movies as well.
one of my favorites.

Most Yanks are surprised he speaks with a British accent. In addition to Blackadder and F & L, he also does a great Bertie Wooster.

Brilliant,
You know you have to be good to be able to mess around like that.

The guitar is all right John but you'll never make a living out of it! (John Lennon's Aunt Mimi)
The accent I'm used to, of course, but there was never much walking in Blackadder - I did a double-take when he walked without the limp...

Try telling that to the Texans who had the unenviable task of translating my Lancashire dialect a couple of years ago - they'll still be scratching their heads over some phrases!

I watched the first episode of this season. You know, the one with a 15000 dollar guitar. It didn't seem that he knew what to do with it, maybe he was acting. A Doctor probably don't have much time to practice.
Actually, I think that was because the other doc (cancer doc) had taken it apart and he was trying to piece it back together... but my memory is failing me. He is actually quite good, even in the show.

I think the theory of special relativity may apply here.

Hugh Laurie would've fit in really well with vaudeville. Like any good vaudevillian he can act well, be funny, and has lots of musical talent. Being that I'm really only familiar with him from House, and vague memories of Blackadder, I'm not sure whether he can sing or not. I love House though, it's one of my favourite shows.
