Well my endless quest for an HH solid body may actually be coming to an end soon (or not)
I've been flip flopping back and forth lately all over the place.
Not sure anymore really because the more i compare and listen, the more undecided i become.
my infatuation with Billy G's tone makes me crave cranking up the Fender, but i really love the Iommi SG.
I'm not even sure whether i can say these are the 2 I've narrowed it down to but... well there it is.
can somebody please talk some sense into me?
HELP!!!

Lately I've been looking at the Iommi Sig Epiphone,

the Fender special edition spalted Tele,

Here??? No way, amigo.

But I don't see buying the Iommi to get a Gibbons tone ...

Oh yeah i agree, that's my problem :?
I'm really impressed with the Epi, i think it' a great guitar for the money. On the other hand i'm not sure how much tonal variance the Iommi sigs will produce.
Flip side Tele has admittedly different vibe altogether for nearly 2x the $
I'm wondering which one would be able to straddle the gap better between the tones i love. I could shape it out with my EQ i guess.
I just think that the Epi sig is soooo nice.

How about a Gibson faded SG? Reasonbly priced, reasonably versatile.

If it was me, I'd go for the faded TV Yellow double-cut LP with P90s:

Not helping, am I? Well, I warned you ...

I have both the Fender HH and the faded SG. I like the Fender better, and I play it more often... but the SG feels like rock'n'roll. The Fender is really nice, but it feels like an import guitar without an identity. Looks like a Tele but has binding and inlay and humbuckers. Just kinda weird.

The SG looks like an SG and plays like an SG.

For similar money I'd do the SG.

The Iommi SG is kinda cool, but why get the Epi when you can get the Gibson?

the epi has the gibson iommi sig pups and tuners among other things.
it's really a great value for an epi. for $500.
too be honest i'm really leaning towards the tele of the two but like i said , the wind blows and i get distracted...

ok this is where i am right now in my thinking.
Pups have more to do with the tone than anything else on the guitar imo.
tone wood, etc, contribute in parts, but to be honest Danelectro pretty much convinced me that the wood has less to do with it than i used to think.
i have heard a really nice masonite or particle board guitar recently that blew me away.
I've been reading a lot on the subject for some time now and there have been comparisons made where pups have been swithched out with strat style, SG, LP, and Tele bodys with very little difference that I could tell except for the pickups.
if i go ahead and pull the trigger on the Tele with the pearly gates, am i going to be able to shape a lot of other tones that i like or will i have to eventually get an SG as well?

No, you won't have to, but you'll want to.

If the Tele has the Pearly Gates pup I don't think you'll need the SG. You should be able to get a very LP sound out of that guitar. I think the tough part will be getting a Tele sound out of it!
