def Guild. Maybe the very early hollow version of the M75 Bluesbird, which later became a solid body (LP-like).

oh, cheers Greg.....I'll keep that in mind.

Right now, I'm gassing for either that one, an Eastwood Tuxedo, or a big ol' jazzbox.

Or maybe an Ibanez AWD72 - http://www.curlymusic.co.uk/index.pl?browse=products&id=91&detail=3 but I think I'd be looking for a pup change if I went for that one.

Or a lottery win, in which case, all of the above.

Somethin' old and nasty. Guitars, that is, not Tom. Although I wouldn't mind him, too.

Yeah, Eastwood is doing a lot of really cool retros. Been thinkin bout an Airline Map, Ichiban (inspired by Teisco Spectrum maybe?) or a Stormbird.

Tom is good stuff. Still have 'Small Change' on vinyl somewhere. Used to get played out the windows at uni.

The Tuxedo has me in its grip.....if there was anywhere here that stocked them, I think I'd have one by now. But having to order without trying it is making me consider other options, lol.

There've been a few Teisco's on Ebay recently (UK anyways, dunno if they were posting worldwide), in case that takes your fancy. I got tempted to bid on one sans pups to make my own blues-axe-of-doom with, but my swamp ash strat body called my name and I went running.

Yup, Tom is great. I haven't listened to him for a while, but have been in a big Tom-mood the past month or so for some reason (perhaps in an effort to convince myself if he can sing and people buy it, I might have some chance of not being stoned for doing the same, lol, perhaps I should try Britney at the MTV awards instead?)

Most Teiscos were just crap; but there was a bit of 16-yo-kid-guitar-lust mystique around the Spectrum model. Esp when all I had was one of the crummy "student" Teiscos. My brother had a Sears Silvertone made by Teisco that was uber cool, and I've wanted to rescue it for years. Unfortunately, another brother got it and already hacked humbuckers into it. Very sad. Been wanting the little silverface Vibro-Champ he had as well. Used to give him shocks!

The Tuxedo is v. Gretsch-like, but with P90s. Hot s**t there! You like with or w/o Bigsby?

Tom Waits is my favorite lyricist. Swordfishtrombones is amazing. I wrote something once in my early days of writing trying to emulate his style. Maybe I'll record it....

I've got no idea what the guitar is though.

Update....."A battered blond Guild has been used by Tom Waits since his early days (he could be seen playing a Guild throughout his recent Real Gone Tour)." From a Wiki article...

From Rolling Stone: "In a dim white spotlight, Waits straps on a battered blond Guild guitar."

Perhaps an early model of the X-170:

Maybe a 150

A 1976 Guild Artist:

Walkin' man © Nick Torres 2003

Walk on down to Mickey's bar and grill
Pull up my stool, drinkin' beer after beer
I sit and drink until I get my fill
drownin' my sorrows tear after tear.

Walked down Main to the five and dime
got me a calendar shows me the date
got me a watch, what a waste of time
all it ever tells me is, it's too late

Chorus:

I'm a walkin' man, a man just like you
Lost my reason on the road, got nothin' to do
I'm a walkin' man, tryin' to walk on home
I'm a walkin' lost, walkin alone

Walked on down to Smitty's liquor store
Chuck at the register he knows my pain
He says "You can't be drunk 'cause you need some more"
got a fifth of cheap bourbon, it's all the same

Walked on down to the park to sit
watch the moms watch the kids go running by
I put up my feet to rest them a bit
Mom, she's watching me, corner of her eye

Chorus:

I'm a walkin' man, a man just like you
Lost my reason on the road, got nothin' to do
I'm a walkin' man, tryin' to walk on home
I'm a walkin' lost, walkin alone

Walked on down that night on south ninety five
past underpass condos of rags and bones
headlights and diesel move like they're alive
walkin' 'cross the water, walkin' on home

That is brilliant.

It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.

+1 to kenrogers2's comment.

Nick, you are truly awesome........that natural wood Guild is so prettyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy :P :P :P

Scrybe wonders just how good a girl she'd have to be for father christmas to supply an Eastwood Tuxedo, an old blonde Guild, and that Guild for christmas??? hmm.....

Seriously liking the song. I've been on a bit of a Tom Waits kick recently, although I was introduced to him years back, and I've been grateful ever since. I've been writing a few things recently which definitely fall into that vein, including one (or two) SSG contributions. Record that tune, and I'll pull my finger out and get onto dealing with mine and succumb to posting the recorded shame of my voice. Deal?

Scrybe's latest guitar-want list......

Guild X-150 in blonde
Guild X-150 in dark wood
Eastwood Tuxedo in black
Big jazz box (maybe a Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion....not that I've spent hours drooling or anything......)
a hardtail strat
Danelectro U2 (why I never bought one of those dirt-cheap reissues, I'll never know)

and voice-modelling plug-ins for Tom Waits, Nina Simone, Susan Tedeschi/Bonnie Raitt, and Jeff Buckley

not too much to ask, is it?

I'm undecided about bigsby/no bigsby as of yet. unfortunately, 'research' rarely results in me whittling down a specific choice but, rather (as evidenced above), expanding the list.
