Hey guys. I heard this pretty cool blues instrumental on the radio last night that I'm trying to identify. It's got a few riffs that I'd love to figure out including a very cool distinct slide verse. I recorded the last minute of it using a tiny microphone.
Here's what I recorded: http://h1.ripway.com/Musus/VOC001.WAV
Can anyone help me identify it? Thanks.

mate, it could be anything - I certainly can't identify it clearly. but here's a couple of tracks/artists who have a similar sound/use similar riffs. hope this helps until you can figure out who the piece you posted is by...
All Your Love (I Miss Loving) - Eric Clapton and the Bluesbreakers (the Beano album from, I believe, 1965(ish). This has a version of that riff which gets repeated a bit at the start of your piece.
Santana - there's some rythmic ideas there similar to a lot of his stuff. Although, I believe, Black Magic Woman (originally by Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac) is the most rhythmically similar to your piece.
Kenny Burrell - not thinking of track names right at the mo', but the album Midnight Blue consists of some kicking jazz/blues instrumentals and quite probably has some similar riffs in it.
hope this helps, and be sure to post the artist who did the piece you recorded if you do figure out who its by.
Hi :D
Well, it sounds a bit like one of those old SURF instrumental bands to me.... Like - The Ventures,
or one of those.
Ken
EDIT - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surf_music
I'd look into some of those bands listed in the article.
It also explains a bit about the music.
It would seem that saxophones were used in the early 60's version of 'surf rock' - That's where I would start looking.

I think you're on to something, CitiZenNoir! My first thought was also the Ventures, although I couldn't say what song or what album. That would be a great starting point, though.

Hi Again :D
I was thinking....
Since you heard it on the radio, if it was a local station, you could call, or even maybe visit and ask them about it.
If you have the date and time, they would probably know.
Or sometimes, bigger stations have their playlists published for a time online.
Just a thought.
HI EB! :D
Good to see ya - as always.

I was thinking Kenny Burrell, but couldn't place the song. I of course first thought of Back at the Chicken Shack, but I don't think that's it...
"A cheerful heart is good medicine."
I think it's some live part of Otis Rush, All Your Love.
The way he plays it, it has that same beat.
oh yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I totally forgot the original version
still, my first suggestion was rather close 8)

Hey! Good call guys! :D
It sounds like Otis Rush's tone, fer sure.
And is the riff, more or less.
Musus - Did you hear the whole song...?
Was it all instrumental????
'cause there are lyrics to - 'All Your Love (I Miss Lovin')'
If you wanna learn the Bluesbreakers version (The best one IMHO) - Check out the Easy Song forum for AK's wonderful

Thanks man. Thats actually the first song I've ever been able to figure out all the way through by ear. Come to think of it, it's the only one I've ever figured out by ear.
