Think about it. It's already April 7, 2007
April 7, 2007
It's the year 2007.
I'm only 16 (born July 27, 1990). But wow, it feels like yesterday I was a Freshman in High School (I'm a Junior now). I remember maybe, even just two years ago thinking to myself, "man, I have to wait till 7 o'clock to watch the baseball game. Damn, that's too long!" But now it's just like, suddenly 7 before I know it, and I might even miss the first ten minutes of the game.
It feels like yesterday I picked up my guitar for the first time. That was around January 8th. Wait a minute, so I've been playing for three months already? Jeez.
And I just think to myself sometimes, "what about when I'm 20? 30? How fast will it go then?" And I also think to myself, "so I guess my parents and all other, older people were right, your childhood years will fly by before you know it." They have, I mean, I'm 16, but come on, I'm still a 'kid' even though I think I'm a lot more mature than a kid. I'm not into the whole drinking, partying thing. I'd much rather go somewhere and relax. Maybe time is moving so fast because I'm not taking advantage of these years?
Maybe.
It's just weird, reflecting "out loud" about this. I ate supper at 4:30 tonight, and it's 11:45 PM right now. I can still taste the meatballs in my mouth, it felt like I hate them ten minutes ago (my stomach would say otherwise though, hehe).
Ah, I don't know. Maybe I think too much, that might be why time moves by quickly. As a child, a baby, you have no concerns, no worries. I was looking at pictures the other day, when I was home from school one day, and there was some pictures of me with my Papa (he died when I was 5), and there's this one picture of me and him that I love. I don't remember him, but I love this picture. You can see it here ( ). I don't know, I just miss that innocence. It sucks, when you're younger you wish you were older, when you're older you wish you were younger.
Time moves by way too fast. That's all. I just wish I could slow it down, or freeze it, to have more time to suck in those amazing moments in life.
Sorry for this long message, but at night time I get really deep and I felt like posting a message about this.

Kevin.......never ever apologise for having a 'mind'
your learning early what i and every other 'old boy' know....and you have a very descriptive way with words....YOU ARE going to write some great songs...i can see it in there....

Believe it! I've been watching my 3 boys be born and grow up for the last 10 years and 1: Where did that time go? 2: They wake up taller, smarter, and better-looking than when they went to bed the night before. So yeah, savor every moment you can; each one's worth a fortune.

Wait til you can say you are now entering the second half of a century. Now there's a milestone. :D

Yea, it must be crazy. My dad says the same thing. 10 years old too...soon they'll sky-rocket. 10 and 11 were probably my favorite ages so far, so I hope they enjoy it.

:P And we've been apart of two centuries. Ah
Maybe it's just me but last week seems like lightyears ago...
This is a great post coming from someone 17! I'm 48 and sometimes I feel the same way. My dad died a couple of years ago and I saw a picture of him standing on the beach last week. Seems like yesterday I was a kid swimming in the ocean and he was yelling for me to wathc out for the undertow. Time flies, indeed.
Further note, I took an 81 year old woman to her first concert this week (Tom Jones). Too cool.

Very insightful of you Kevin. You should try putting those insights & feelings into writing some songs. I'll bet you could come up with some really good stuff. 8) I know exactly how you feel too... my son just turned 12 last week, and I have a daughter who will be turning 17 next month... when did that happen! Sheesh I'm only twenty... no, thirty... no wait, ... fourty-one! Guess we all just need to live every day & cherish every moment. :D

You are not the first teenager to think about the passage of time . I read that Steven Tyler wrote " Dream On " when he was seventeen !
If I claim to be a wise man , it surely means that I don't know .
Kevin, how astute that you can already at your age appreciate how fast time and our lives fly by.
I remember as a kid always hearing my mom say that the older you get the faster time goes, and when I was 9 waiting impatiently for my 10th birthday (just so I could say I was "10" as it sounded so mature ) I couldn't understand what in the heck she was talking about. A rainy day with nothing to do and no one to play with seemed interminable. If I could only have banked those hours and have them back now.....

When my mind is free, you know a melody can move me
And when I'm feelin' blue, the guitar's comin' through to soothe me ~
Guess what, Kevin? The longer you stick around, the faster it goes by! We have a lot in common with the mayfly that lives as an adult for 1 day.

My birthday is in two days and I'll be 25. I came to the realization that I'll then be closer to 30 than I will be to 20, which is actually kind of scary. I can vividly remember my freshman year of high school, and it doesn't seem like that long ago, but that was 10 years ago. Yikes.
Great post Kevin. 8) :)
I was born in the first half of last century (in 1946). When I was a kid, there was a popular book called '1984'. The author - George Orwell - had chosen the title because when he wrote it the year 1984 seemed WAY in the future. And when I was a kid 1984 still seemed a long way ahead. Now 1984 is nearly a quarter of a century in the PAST. Geez where DID that time go.
It sure does speed up too. When I was at school a 45 minute class lasted an eternity. Now, even a boring 45 wait goes past in a flash with a daydream or two....
My mother in law used to say "I may look 65 but I still feel 16 inside", and there's some truth in that. One of the advantages of getting older is that you don't have to keep changing your views. You should be able to keep the best of both worlds in your toolkit - the young viewpoint, and the old one, and the great journey in between.
I agree with what others have said - you sound like you're going to be a great writer of songs and/or prose. :)
Cheers,
Chris

You could try checking out a few of his songs in the SSG. It's obvious he puts a lot of thought into them, and a lot of care and attention. There's a nice loose laid-back vibe to some of them, and when his writing matures (it's mature now for a 16-year old) and he finds his own direction he WILL write some really good songs. If he has a fault, it's that he tries a little too hard to get a Hendrix vibe going with everything....but that's not a bad fault to have!
:D :D :D
