- well, I still keep my records in the living room so at least my kids will have an idea. But we have to admit I think, that it is a lost battle -

Are you saying that Vinyl may be on it's way out?

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.

Off course it is(?) Look at the "young" people - they hardly buy even CDs. Download / digital formats is the way to go. Then we "oldies" can argue as much as we like that the sound of an old vinyl record on a decent record player is far superior. It sounds kinda like 100 and some years ago when people doubted seriously that electricity would ever have any practical use...

I'd love to be mistaken though :D

Because analogue covers the whole wound wave, whereas digital just takes samples of it.

Very high quality digital can approximate an analogue delivery system so that you ear can't tell the difference, but it will never be as good.

Because analogue covers the whole wound wave,

What is that? I don't know the science behind it, but i always said vinyl had a more tangible sound. If that makes sense. And i'd go so far as to say that records will never completely go away as long as people listen to captured music. The last few years record sales/collecting have been up. And though some of this might be due to nostalgia and throwbacks, i think it has more to do with the quality of records. A lot of people do think they're a better format, both in sound and appearance. i know in underground music a lot of the time records are preferred. I think at the very least the record will stick around due to it being the original capture of music, whereas CDs are already being tossed.
