What do you think is one of the most profound (or the most profound) lyric you have heard? Two leap to mind as I type:

'At the end of every hard earned day people find a reason to believe." -Springsteen

and

"You can't roller skate in a buffalo heard, but you can be happy if 'ya have a mind to". - Someone other than Springsteen.

Humourous does not mean not profound. I might also offer the opinion that confusing or obsecure, does not neccessarily mean profound either.

Any thoughts, anyone?

"You want WHAT on the *&%#ing ceiling?" - Michelangelo, 1566

I've always admired David Byrne's laconic description of entropy:

"Things fall apart -- it's scientific."

Some foolish man dreamt
That dreaming had no meaning
And life is quite simply
a series of illusions...

By The Dissociatives

I don't know why I like it. It's so deep, and so... comforting. Makes me feel like love and magic still exist in a way. Maybe it's just me.

The first and second lines contain something of a paradoxical twist that makes the passage interesting. A "this space intentionally left blank" sort of thing. Nice Lyric.

"We beleive we're gliding down the highway, when in fact we're slip sliding away." -Paul Simon

"Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose"." - Kris Kristofferson

One that's always stuck in my head. Maybe because it's so descriptive of the human condition.

Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can't get. -Desparado, The Eagles.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -- "WOW--What a Ride!"

Another John Prine;

Father forgive us for what we must do,
You forgive us, we'll forgive you.
We'll forgive each other 'till we both turn blue.
Then we'll whistle and go fishing in Heaven.

An interesting coment on some religious beliefs methinks, wrapped in a simple but poignant way to say "Forget it, let's get along".

Life is what happens to you
While you're busy making other plans
--John Lennon

Disillusioned words like bullets bark
As human gods aim for their mark
Made everything from toy guns that spark
To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark
It's easy to see without looking too far
That not much
Is really sacred.
--Bob Dylan

Oh, but this ol' river keeps on rollin', though,
No matter what gets in the way and which way the wind does blow,
And as long as it does I'll just sit here
And watch the river flow.
--Bob Dylan

Well we all shine on--like the moon and the stars and the sun.
-- John Lennon

you want it, you take it, you pay the price
- Prove It All Night [Springsteen]

The truth is it doesn't matter what you do
'Til you gaze in that mirror with an eye that's true
- The Truth [Steve Earle]

Do everything that's in you
That you feel to be your part
But never give your love, my friend,
Unto a foolish heart
- Foolish Heart [Grateful Dead]
