I highly recommend reading "Inside Out" by Nick Mason...

Also, you can check out the Pink Floyd Echoes FAQ for lots of detailed info:

Last update was in 1999, so a lot of the recent stuff is not there.

Richard had a huge influence on the music. PF's music would definately not sound the same without him. It is not as obvious as a raging guitar solo, or the lyrics... but just as important.

Not sure about Nick though...

I would have to agree with this. PF's music was as much about the sum of the parts as opposed to individual parts. The organ and keyboard work on the music is outstanding and identifies the PF sound as much as Gilmour's subtle phrasing.

I dont really have much of an opinion on Mason. It all seemed to work though.

I am going to go out on a limb and say while Waters was an incredible writer I think he was an average base player. I have "heard" that Gilmour actually wrote and played a lot of the bass lines. This could be wrong. I base my information on many a late night "discussions" with equally uninformed friends. :D Adult beverages where involved.

Interview guy: What is the source of your feedback?
Neil Young: Volume.

Im going to just go ahead and say that I'm a Waters era fan. Hands down. I see myself in his songwriting I guess.
