On Monday I was watching how to play the blues instructional video my son 14 years old sat down with me { I think it was about 1/2 way through when he came in }
Very basic video for the beginner { thats me and my son }
We grabbed the guitars as this guy was showing us what to do , and followed him slowly ..
I struggled with it { and stil am struggling } my lad was doing it and adding riffs by the end of the video ..
Guess who is now teaching dad how to do it ??
Pretty proud of my lad right now ..He picked it up in about 5 minutes ...
Just thought I would share one of those father /son moments with ya all ...
Cheers

Trevor,
Thanks for sharing.
That story sounds very familiar. My 11 year old son picks up rythms and riffs very easily... and then shows them to me. 8)
I think the ultimate reward is being able to play music with your kids.
That's pretty cool, guys.

no doubt 8)
even god loves rock-n-roll
Between me and the Mrs, we have 8 kids - not a one of them plays a musical instrument.....
But there's one grandkid taken up guitar - been playing 6 months or so, he seems to have a real flair for it....already playing chords I hadn't heard of till recently, and I've been playing for over 30 years, on and off.....
Ah well - back to the drawing board....
:D :D :D

Trev I know how you feel. On our little collaboration Ive got one son on the piano and the other doing a lead break on the electric guitar, very proud I am. All I need now is to sort out my bass bit and the rhythm guitarist to sort his bit out ( you havent seen him around have you :lol: ) and we'll be cooking with gas.
Paul
rhythm guitarist Paul ?
Last I heard he was { for the first time in his life trying to slow down }
Not very successfully though ....
What was the dead line ? I'll give him a kick in the pants to lift his act { lol }

That's great Trev. My daughter plays sax and keys and we have a great time jamming out stones tunes and jazz standards. It's great seeing our love of music passed on to the next generation.
Immature? Of course I'm immature Einstein, I'm 50 and in a Rock and ROll band.

My two girls are 4 (just) and 2 1/2 - they like to mess around with their 1/2 size acoustic, but they're not really into it yet. I've tuned it to open Am so they can just strum and I can practice scales over the top, they both like that, but my youngest prefers me to plug in the bass, crank it up and lay it on the floor so she can just site there and ping the strings. She just loves the boominess of it :mrgreen:
I won't push them at all, but I'll love it if they take up some instrument or other eventually. They've got plenty of inspiration - I'm always playing guitar and bass, their 'gramps' is/was a pro drummer and two of their uncles play both guitar and drums. Fingers crossed.
That's a nice warm and fuzzy moment, Trevor. Memories you will treasure.
Here's my son at his lesson last night. (note the the Squier '51). He won't spend too much time playing music with me, but I don't push as I don't want to turn him off.

I hope to have a similar story someday soon.
Good for you and your son and all of you and yours as well.

Cute son Margaret. You all are blessed to be able to do that with your kids.
If I ever have kids I hope they inherit my family's musical ability and not my husband's. When those people sing, deaf cats run away. (This actually happened.)
All my life I wanted to be somebody. Now I see I should have been more specific.

:D Sounds like you've got good reason to brag 'em up!
You're exactly right, Matt (in the pic) is 12. He's a great kid, even his teachers all tell us so, and that's saying something about a middle-school-age boy! :lol: He attracts friends (and now the girls, too :shock: ) like a magnet. Smart, athletic, great sense of humor, and a perfect degree of sensitivity. His friends' parents all love to have him around - they say he's polite, even. :P He seems to have it all. Don't know where he got it, but he seemed to.
